Skye was referred to the hospital about her head control at 10 weeks. She had a few basic tests and they basically said it would get better with time. She was told to come back to see them 6 weeks on. So we went today. Her head control is perfect so they had no concerns there but her head circumference has increased dramatically! Gone from the 50th upto the 91st. They are going to remeasure in 8 weeks time and if there's anymore growth she'll have more tests. Anyone had any experience in this? Its really worried us. :(

No advice I'm sorry hun - hope others can be more helpful x

hun just seen on facebook, have no advice but im sure everything will be fine xx Lolas head hasnt been measured for ages (think since she was a few weeks old) so it could be the same for everyone really but we just dont know. If your really worried, maybe go to your gp for a chat xx

Archie has never had his head circumference done!!!!!

Hope all is okay xxx

bella's went from 75th at birth to 98th at 8 weeks, no-one batted an eyelid, just mentioned she had a big head. i measure it every so often & it's stayed on the 98th centile since. i don't think head measurements are too accurate though, & there's not a big difference size wise between a "small" head & a "big" head.
xx

I read somewhere that the head circumference changes quite dramatically at the 12 week growth spurt. Could just be this?

Its most likely to be totally normal. Especially with the new WHO charts that are now in most red books and used in most hospitals, they have noticed many babies jump up to the top centiles in the first few weeks. My LO has jumped from under the 75th to the 91st in head circumference; my GP isn't concerned, very rarely a jump in HC can indicate hydrocephalus but usually there are other symptoms. My nearly 4 year old was off the charts in HC and when he was 3 (the oldest they make charts for HC generally) he was an inch off the top of the chart on paper; but he is totally fine some babies are just genetically programmed to have big heads. xx

My guys head was measured once by his dr and was whatever size, then the next time the nurse measured and it was bigger, then the next time the dr did it again and it had shrunk!! ;) Not sure if it's the whole reason, but different people measure very differently. If nothing else, it's good that they are keeping an eye on it!

My LO is the opposite, his head was on the 90th percentile at birth, now it's on the 50th (using the newest WHO charts).

I have a really big head circumference and I am normal...I think!

thanks ladies. Summer rain - we have a history of hydrocephalus (our angel had it) which is maybe why they are being cautious. Hopefully its perfectly normal and it just a growth spurt. Thank u to everyone for the reassurance :hugs:
