grandparents

just heard on the news that due to more grandparents caring for children they want them to be entitled to tax credits and 2 weeks a year 'granny leave!'

what does everyone think about it?

I cant call on my parents for help as they both work full time, My mum works in a job where she wouldnt be able to have time off to help me- granny leave or otherwise! And my dad would never cope on his own with a baby!!!

I'm not sure about the tax credits- would like to know what others think about it

Wow, I think thats a fantastic idea!

My mum took nearly two weeks off work when Jasper was born to come and help me survive after having a c-section - I dont know what I'd have done without her to be honest - I'd have seriously hurt myself and not recovered as well as I did after the operation!

She couldn't really afford it, but she did it anyway.

Although, Australia needs to get a clue and pay maternity leave!!! OMG! We get family assistance for low income households and we do get a pay out when we have a baby, but there is no official policy on maternity leave

I've not looked at the link yet but I do know that you can get money off tax credits to help with childcare if grandparents look after them but they have to be registered childminder

sounds like a good idea - especially for those grandparents who do end up with the children, why shouldn't they get the same benefits to help the child as the parents would do

I dont care for it as my mother is not in my sons life very much ..but ti would be good for DH mom

I think it's brilliant. My mum works full time so couldn't, but it'll be nice for the people whos mums are at home and able to help out!

i think its brilliant my mum has courtney 2 days a week and my nan has her a few hours a week too

i think its a great idea. i'm really close to my mum and if i had to go back to work i would leave maddi in the care of mum, and she obviously wouldn't want paying, so to give her some money for it would be amazing! x

i think its great i'll be back at work in june and my mums having jack so that would be great for her. when does it start??
