Hello!

Eric's exclusively BF and has been getting green poos recently. Hes also very gassy at night, last night he was making loads of noise after each feed, not crying though just grunting? Hes not been sick more I dont think. I read that too much foremilk can cause this so trying to get him to feed more on one boob before offering the other, but still green poos this morning.

Any thoughts? Is there anything I can do to ease the gas, hes sooooo noisy at night (he does sleep though, just takes him 5-10 mins to settle)

Thanks! :flower:

Is your baby 19 days?

If so it's probably a bit of an over supply issue.. We're dealing with it Aswell and all u can do for the short term is do exactly what your doing and feed from one side and it should correct itself.

yep, 19 days, thanks for replying! How long should I feed on the one side for before using the other? x

I have this problem and here and there her poos are green but I still feed her from both sides just in case but when I feed her when she spits out my boob and its spraying everywhere I hand express into a dish towel until the flow slows down then let her feed again...usually after I've done that her poos go back to yellow. I didn't want to go to one boob and then turn out it wasn't over supply even though I'm pretty sure that's what it is.

Thank you, was thinking of expressing out the first part of milk. I managed to feed on one side for the day from 10am, but had to swap over at 4pm feed as he was not happy with original side.

There are two different things optimistic yours sounds like an over active let down not an over supply...

So baby guzzles and gulps at the start then once u get rid of that feed is normal

A genuine over supply issue is when baby is really gassy gulps the entire feed has green poos and your boobs still feel mostly full after feeding..

Feeding from one boob won't hurt even if I don't have over supply issues. Basically all it does is ensure while baby is still regulating your supply it gets a better mixture of the fire milk and the hind milk... Too much fore milk causes the green poos
Your body will always make what the baby takes and re adjust regardless of feeding from one or two...it's just feeding from one at a time means that it's easier for the body to working it out... It's constant and then as I said baby gets a mixture so doesn't "starve" if there's a genuine over supply issue.
Going for longer periods starves the breat your jot using foxing the issue however too long periods can potentially stop the supply too much.
Don't leave too big gaps between your side changes just start with 2 hours so feed from one boob each feed ... I don't need too big blocks unless the problem is way serious.

Also be careful with the expressing thing... If u have over active letdown then it may help but if u have genuine over supply it will make it worse by making your body think the 10-20ml extra u expressed is necessary therefore repeating the cycle again
Is baby gulping the whole feed or only at the start?
My suggestion is to feed bubs ... When u feel let down pull your nipple out and let it squirt or hand express onto a muslin or something then keep feeding once it stops spraying heavily
If your green poos continue then its the over supply thing not an over active let down

Hope this helps

Actually she had a full day of green mucousy poo so I tried the blocked feeding last night because I was really desperate and wanted to make sure she's not fighting a virus and once I tried feeding from one boob at a time and i didn't switch until one side was empty or add i guessed it to be empty cause she took a 4 hour nap after feeding every hour and having green explosive poo after each feed....her first poo of the day today was yellow and she seems less gassy today as well so yeah id give the blocked feeding a try.

I do have over active let down I let down multiple times a feed and the first one is usually pretty strong. And she was having green poos so I must have had over supply too and I did notice my boobs were engorged before each feed..but today its better so far.

I exclusively express and my baby got green poos.

I went yo the doctors with him and was told it could just be a virus he's getting over.
After two weeks of still having green pootge doctor said its nothing to worry about, it could just be something I've eaten that digests differently for him.

The doctor said its nothing and I should look at how he is. If he's no temp, and happy in himself then all is fine.

It cleared up as he had it constantly but now it's just the odd time.

I have overactive let down and my LO gets them occasionally. Usually just 1-2 poos and then it's back to orangey yellow like always. I always just alternated boobs like normal and figured if it was clearing up on it's own he was probably fine.

Then I started back to work and I thinking pumping makes my overactive let down much worse. More green poos. I have been loosely block feeding since then and they are back to normal. He gets normal colored poos after expressed milk, so I am figuring it is the let down not a fore/hind milk imbalance.

I had a massive over supply issue... It's awful!

I have to block feed now, I do 6 hours on one boob and 6 hours on the other. So no matter how many times DD feeds in the 6 hr period I will use the same boob, when the 6hrs in up I swap boobs and the same applies. And she's never emptied a boob :-/

It was worse when DD was younger, it will even out!

Failing that, maybe it's a bit of a cold?

Oversupply doesn't necessarily cause green poo; I had massive oversupply with second youngest along with OALD but aside from in the first couple of weeks when I was still having dairy and his green poo was caused by an intolerance, his poo was always bright orangey yellow and seedy-just 3x as much of it as you'd expect. Some days he poo'd every hour and even though it was so frequent there would still be enough to leak out of the back and sides of the nappy. My youngest is similar but I only have a slight oversupply this time xx
