We are currently ttc, so obviously lots of bding at the strategic time. But, how do you know what is ewcm and what is just last night's "waste" ? I'm not sure whether it is trickling down and that is what I am seeing

Semen won't stretch like EWCM will. And EWCM usually has the consistency of egg whites.

Exactly, EWCM is a little thicker than leftover semen, and is much stretchier. Semen feels very wet and slick, but you'll notice that EWCM has a more mucous-y texture to it, almost like what comes out when you blow your nose, but thinner.
