Hubby, as some of you know, runs a health screening company. He already has a testing kit you can buy on his website to swab for MRSA and he's thinking of adding GBS testing in too. There is a new test out (polymerase chain reaction) which is up to 94% accurate (compared to the other one being about 50% accurate) and he would be offering this as well as the older culture style test too, simply to offer a cheaper alternative to the new test as it's the one that the NHS still use..

Can I pick your brains on a few things?

Would you be interested in getting a private gbs test?

What would you be willing to pay? (For both swabs)

What search terms would you put in to google to look for somewhere you could get this done?

What information etc would you want with the test?

Anything else we need to bear in mind?

Mwah - thank you!!

I would be interested. I am really worried about GBS but have been refused NHS testing so have already sent off for a kit for when I am 36 weeks.

I could only find two companies which did it - though they are often linked through different sites. I am paying £23 (for postage, the kit and testing) and I just googled 'private group B strep test'

I think if you are charging more, a payment scheme would be good. Like paying half for the kit and then half for the results to spread it out. This might also save timewasters for you.

:)

Wouldn't be interested in the standard NHS (50% false negative rate) test, but would be interested in the accurate culture based test, which is the method described by the Health Protection Agency as the best to use for looking for GBS carriage in pregnant women when anything is done. Not sure about the PCR test - obviously it's new but would hospitals accept the results?

Totally un-neccasery to this thread ( sorry to the OT ) but i used to worry so mch about GBS during my pregnancy,so much I couldn't sleep.I payed 32pounds for a private test in London at the Doctors Labatory, they are amazing. I got my results back within 48hours and they were Green(negative) I now have a happy healthy baby girl and I wish i hadnt worried half about the stuff i did during my pregnancy, but it's better to take that test....32pounds or any amount of money is worth a precious little life, i say good on you for taking the test. :hugs: I agree with what you've said too, 'paying half for the kit and half for results'

The best test is the gold method.

Enriched culture method :) ( ECM ) I had that one done, and it is brill.

they found my gbs at 17 weeks with just a HVS ... there gonna test me again at 36 weeks

Thanks so much LOZANDEVIE, I didn't know if I was worrying too much, or doing the wrong thing, but you have just 100% put my mind at ease. Congratulations on your gorgeous baby girl :)

You're totally welcome hun, i worried about it so much honestly. But it's nothing to worry about,if the test comes back positive, that's good news. You can get the antibiotics and you and bubs will be fine, if it comesback negative, even bettter!! :-) Thank you very much!! xx
