I had this with my last pregnancy (found on a swab) and didn't have time for the antibiotics (gave birth 20 mins after getting to the hospital) and my little one was fine. The let me go home the same day. I had my booking appt last week and 2 separate midwives told me that these days if it is ONLY found on a swab then you can still give birth where you want and you have the option of if you want to have anti biotics or not. If found in urine then it means it's deeper in your system therefore you need to go to a "big" hospital (rather than home birth or midwife lef unit) and be treated with anti biotics and be monitored after the birth. They said that studies had been done and that when only found on a swab there was no greater risk of the baby having difficulties after birth if the mother had not been treated with anti biotics. If found in urine then the studies showed that babies who's mothers had been given anti biotics suffered less complications. After getting my hopes up by telling me this she then tells me if I'm found to have it again this time even if only on a swab then I have no option and have to go to the "big" hospital as it's reocurring
I'm not sure if different trusts have different protocols though?
