I have a growth scan next week, il be 25+ weeks, what do they do? Do they estimate the weight of the baby? I have to have one every 4 weeks now, so would like to know what to expect x

Ive never had one personally but a friend did. Once she finished she text me to say the baby was measuring big for its age so im guessing they do measure/weigh bubs size. x

I've had 2 growth scans - one at 17 wks and another at 23 weeks. Mine were very thorough as I joined a research programme so it's 4 updating their growth charts.
They were about 20 mins - 1/2 hr each and the sonographer spends quite a bit of time with ultrasound device on yr tummy measuring baby's head, torso, arms, brain, spine etc to check they are right sizes for yr stage.
He then will prob show u yr baby's measurements on a chart - to show if they're average, on the small or large side. Mine were average so I was happy. R yr scans due to an underlying complaint? :hugs:

Hey chic, My scans are coz i have a high risk pregnancy, got Cystic Fibrosis and Diabetes... So they're keeping a close eye on her growth as shes at high risk of under-growth with the CF, and high risk of over-growth with the Diabetes, so hopefully that'll equal her our lol xx

I'm having a growth scan on monday because my baby boy was measuring small at 20 week scan. I'm hoping everything goes well

Hiya hun,

They will measure LO's tummy, legs and head - also the amount of fluid your carrying.

Once the sonographer puts all the measurements they've taken onto the computer it does come up with an estimated weight, I had 5 growth scans and always made sure I asked the weight when I saw the consultant :)

x

Hi i have gestational diabetes and have to have growth scans every 2 weeks from 26 weeks. I have already had 7 scans with this bump!! At a growth scan they measure head circumferance, abdominal circumferance and the length of the babs legs. It gets printed of and a doc tells you if you are normal size ect. Sometimes they do weight aswell. Ive had 2 so far with weight estimates and hes measuring 2/3 weeks too big but they dont seem that worried at the moment. Just think of it as another chance to see your lil one and make sure babas doing great :)
