My LO is not a delicate little boy, bless him and weighs 15lb 11.5oz at 10 weeks. The HV are always commenting and questioning his feeds - gave them a mouthful last week and they seem to have accepted it. As a first time mum you don;t want to be told that your baby is a little on the heavy side and if his weight goes up we'll have to take things further and maybe discuss with a specialist - it worries you. I've learnt to ignore them now, However, my MIL came round last week and began comparing -

"Well, Matilda is a week older and half his size.......how much does he weigh now?......Well, all that food you give him has to go somewhere!!"

Then to top it off as she left she walked up to him and said "See you later fatty!" Now I know I'm exaggerating here as she did say "Oh, don't take offence to that I'm only joking" but I don't appreiciate anyone calling my baby a 'fatty'! I hate the word FAT, especially when describing someone and when you have in the back of mind the constant questions from HV the last thing I want is people calling him fat. He's only a baby!!!

Rant over - sorry!!!

Hes not fat!!!

Ignore everyone, if he wasnt hungry he wouldnt eat it!

What are they going to do? Send him to slimming world?

I really wouldnt worry, it will all level out when he starts crawling etc, theres more of him to love in my opinion!
Xxxx

IMO babies are meant to be chubby - hence, baby fat. (Maybe I'm just saying that cos mines a little chubba, nearly 12lb at 8 weeks! If he's hungry - he gets fed. Full stop. I'm not going to put him on a diet lol.

Your MIL was a bit insensitive and sounds just like mine! Just ignore her. And as for the HVs, I always ignore what they have to say, most of it is a loada rubbish. Sorry HVs!!

You want to say the exact same thing to your MIL and see how she likes it!

My mum said I should this! Walk up to her next time I see her and say 'Hi Fatty!'

I love him being chunky - he;s just lovely and round!!!

Fat is a positive trait in babies. Change your opinion about the word fat andfatty and your MILs comments can no longer offend.

That is awful :( Abigail is a little larger than the average baby girl but both me and hubby are larger and she is by no means fat (can a baby even be fat?!) I feed her when she wants feeding and don't force her to finish bottles therefore she is only taking what she needs end of!

Fat is a word used to offend though, end of! I know this as I have suffered being at the brunt end of it all my life (only a size 14 may I add!) so I do not want my baby being brought around the word! I know I'm over-reacting but thought all things considered it was a little insensitive!

i hate hate HATE this when it comes to babies! Charlie was 50th percentile when born and since about 10 weeks has hovered somewhere between 75th and 91st. He's 91st for height too. So is tall as well. Brilliant as far as i'm concerned because when he was hospitalised over christmas with viral gastroenteritis he had plenty of reserves and barely lost any weight. I STILL get comments about how big he is and it drives me potty, me 'we're blw and he's great with his food' complete stranger in surestart centre 'yeah you can tell he's good wii his food alright, he looks like he would bounce. I take it babies overeat with blw?'. I honestly almost passed out with rage! And the time someone called him a bruiser. A bruiser is a thug in my eyes, my baby is no thug :growlmad:

This is a sad sign of todays society im afraid and it drives me wild!
All these TV adverts saying every woman should be size zero? FFS GET REAL! Its a proven fact that todays women are bigger than they were 50 years ago, WHO says women should be a certain size for it to be acceptable?
I much prefer to see a wholesome woman, in my past experience the one stick thin girl I went out with was all me me me and had a bad attitude, no wonder we didnt work out, take off the slap and let us men see the real you!
Creams for this and that to make you look younger? For god sake grow old gracefully, you dont need them, beauty is more than skin deep.

Ask any man and MOST will tell you they dont actually like stick thin glamour models, those that do prefer women to look like a done up manikin are often insecure in themselves.
When me and Mummykins got together one of my workmates made a derogatory comment about her and got put across the valeting bay for it.
I cannot stand people that think its ok to make a judgement about a woman because she is on the larger size.
I see it on car forums that I frequent alot and get slated when I say "yuck too thin" but those that are slating me often turn out to have partners that are on the larger size so I dont get it.

Ignore whats being rammed down our thoats and enjoy being you
I saw an advert on TV the other day for tired eye cream for MEN so it wont be long now before all men are expected to have a 6 pack and look like body builders etc, sorry but you wont get me to conform to that.

As for babies, well a bit of babyfat doesnt hurt and they often grow out of it anyway so how can anyone be judgemental over that?

Emily was 9.15 at birth and at 8 wks was 14.14, she's maintained 91st for weight and 98th for height so looks massive next to otherrs of older age but she's healthy, in proportion and someone has to follow the high and low percentiles else they wouldn't have them!

Isabel was not quite as big at birth but was still big and chunky...she's now a slim, healthy toddler so I have no doubts emily will end up the same

I made it VERY clear with isabel I would not tolerate 'jokey' fat remarks now allow her to be nicknamed pudding as one family member tried  I will not allow this with emily either

Pregnancy and babies seem to make ppl believe they're allowed to make rude remarks they wouldn't dream of making to someone else

My son is 10 months and weighs 25lbs. He is heavier than many kids his age but he is in no way over weight. In fact, since he started to cruise the furniture he is starting to skinny! He is solidly built like me :)
I don't believe your baby is overweight! They take what they need. How can a small baby be over-eating at that age? It doesn't even make sense!

Bloody well said daddykins

My oh also don't like stick thin girls, he say they look like 10 year old boys (being flat back and front :haha: )

He loves my hips and the womanly figure and i too prefer a womanly woman (not that i'm gay)
I was stick thin in my younger days and my oh as said there is no way he would of gone with me they way i looked.

He says he needs meat to throw around the bedroom ;)

My LO's grandparents (my mum and dad) are so darn proud that LO is 'big', especially from being fully breastfed. He was about 8.5 Kg at 12 weeks so is a big boy. His pediatrician is also vet happy to see him this big and healthy :)

I call my boy 'fei chai' = 'fatty boy' LOL and other people don't like me calling him that cuz it's taboo based on tradition.

I sing to my boy , chubby belly chubby belly - chubby cheeks chubby cheeks :)
But if any one called him fat I would call them something nasty back!

I had the opposite problem, Clara's a tall thin little girl and my mil (who is on the rather large size herself) used to say to her, "Mommy isn't feeding you enough is she." This was also a dig at the fact that I bf. It shut her up quickly when my dh said to her that he'd rather she start of thin than fat (not a dig at chunky babies or adults for that matter, it was just to make her realize how stupid her comment was).
