this year i was wanting to have a go at making gifts. i just don't have a clue what to make! anyone got any ideas, or pictures of what you have made for xmas gifts in the past, or what has been made for you?

thanks :flower:

ok i made a bit of a good one a fairy in a jar . . . Just get a empty jar put some glitter in the bottom and put a label on it reading what ever you want. You can make all difrent ones like a fart or so on cheap and funny because kids love it and its only a empty jar. Who needs to spend lots of money when you have a jar and a lid. I will think of some more random things for you .

There are loads of ideas here....

I make cookies and cakes for family. Also, I now make rag dolls and teddy bears so that's what I make for the little ones in the family. We make jams and other preserves too as well as sloe gin. (Although if you want to make the sloe gin you need to go collecting sloes in the next couple of weeks!!)

These all go down really well!

Beca

Cookies/Cupcakes/mini chocolate balls always go down well.Especially white chocolate and coconut ones!

Decoupaged Eggshell Trinket Box

Decoupaging with broken eggshells is a technique that I've been meaning to try for years. Rather than attempt a collage, I chose this faux mother-of-pearl effect to decorate a small wooden trinket box. The finished box is surprisingly strong, and there are no flaking egg shells after two coats of decoupage and two heavy coats of iridescent pearl paint.

Decoupage Egg Shell Trinket Box
Supplies:

small wooden box (ours is about 3 inches high, four inches wide and 2½ inches deep)
decoupage medium or white glue thinned with equal parts water
about 1½ cups of broken white egg shells
white or ivory craft paint with a pearl, iridescent or shimmer finish, or Delta Air-Dry Perm Enamel Iridescent Glass Paint in ivory/gold
stencil "pouncing" type paint brush, foam brush or small piece of sponge to apply thick layers of glue and paint
strong plastic bag
rolling pin or another heavy object to break up the eggshells
small screwdriver
one sheet of computer paper or similar
optional: 4 pearl beads to use as legs

Eggshell Trinket Box
Instructions:

1. Place egg shells in a strong plastic bag and crush them against a table or counter surface using a rolling pin or similar heavy object. Ideally, the egg shells should be broken into fairly fine pieces.

2. Use the small screwdriver to remove any hinges or fasteners from the wooden box and set these aside.

3. Spread a piece of paper over your work surface and begin applying the first coat of decoupage medium to the lid of the box. Do one side at a time, then the top, avoiding any hinge insets or other areas where hardware will be replaced. Apply medium, then sprinkle on a generous mound of broken eggshells, spreading them out and pressing them down firmly with your finger tips. Continue like this until the entire outside surface of the lid is covered, then shake the lid to dislodge any excess shell pieces onto the paper and set the lid aside.

You can slightly fold the paper to funnel the extra egg shells back into their original container.

4. Use the same decoupage technique to cover the bottom half of the box in eggshells. Don't worry if the eggshells don't look thick enough; after this layer is touch-dry (a couple of hours), you should add another layer in exactly the same way as the first one. Allow the double-coated box to dry overnight.

5. Run your fingers over both halves of the box to dislodge any pieces of egg shell that didn't get glued down well.

6. Brush, pounce or sponge a thick layer of paint over all eggshell surfaces and let dry. Apply a second coat of paint in the same way and let dry.

7. Finally, if you wish, use undiluted white glue to fasten four pearl beads to the four bottom corners on the underside of the box and let dry.

Replace the box fastener and hinges.

If desired, paint the inside of the box or line with pretty paper or fabric.

if you have pinecones( have to be semi open) and small spare scraps of colourful fabric and cotton wool and glue then you can tuck fabric peices into the pincones stuffed with cottonwool so it makes a padded effect , im gonna see if i can find a pic, i used to do it as a kid.

and they make great decorations for the tree.

anything knitted or sewn , you could make someone a NO SEW Poncho if you wanted you just need some fleece and a pair of sissors theres a link to the instructions for one in the Natural parenting section atm

Chocolate Christmas Truffles Recipe
Makes 24 generous sized chocolate Truffles.
Ingredients.
45g unsalted butter, chopped coarsely
250g good quality dark chocolate, chopped coarsely
1/3 cup (80ml) thickened cream
1 teaspoon glucose
1/2 cup finely chopped roasted almonds or hazelnuts
1/2 cup finely chopped red glace cherries
1/2 cup finely chopped sultanas
100g finely chopped dark chocolate
1 tablespoon brandy or rum (optional)
150g white chocolate

sprinkles and decorations to top the truffles, see photographs for ideas
Method.

Place the butter and chocolate in a medium sized microwave safe bowl.
Microwave on medium power for 1min. Stir then continue to microwave on medium power at 30sec intervals. Continue until chocolate has just melted. This should not take any more than 2mins.
Add the cream and the glucose. Mix through until combined and smooth.
Stir through the almonds, cherries, sultanas, dark chocolate and brandy.
Cover and chill until thick enough to roll.
Shape a heaped teaspoonful of the truffle mix into a ball. Smooth by rolling between the palm of your hands. This needs to be done quickly otherwise the heat of your hands will melt the truffles.
Place the truffles in paper cases. If you want the little puddings to be their own little plates make sure you read step 11.
Melt the white chocolate. Either use a small spoon or pipe the chocolate on the tops so that it comes down the sides like custard.
Decorate the tops before the chocolate sets.
If you want your little chocolate puddings to be sitting on their own plate, use a small spoon or piping bag to make a small circle/disc of melted white chocolate on non-stick baking paper. Carefully sit the truffle ontop. You can do this before or after topping them.
Store covered in the refrigerator.
