Has anyone had a NT scan??

I had a NT scan today. Baby looked fine, and they said they measured the fluid at the back of the neck. Can they tell right away from the measurements whether or not the fluid is normal/abnormal? My doctor told me everything looks fine for 1st trimester, and I also had blood taken for the DS test. I didn't ask for any of this, but I was told I had to see a specialist because of the meds i'm on. I'm just wondering if they could tell right away if there was something wrong with the fluid at the back of baby's neck. Also, the doctor asked if we were going to find out the sex of our baby, and we told her yeah and she said it appears to be a boy, she looked in between the legs and saw a little stick (that's what it looked like to me) lol. Is this accurate? She had 2 other people come in and they both said it looks like a boy, i'm only 12 weeks though!

Same happened to me on Monday. I know they can tell from a "nub" shot (profile shot showing the angle of baby's nub). However they couldn't find the nub on mine in the profile as baby had legs closed too tightly. So tech looked between the legs from a different angle and said she thinks it's a boy. However I have been reading that potty shots are nearly impossible to tell at this stage as both genders has what looks to be a penis! Sooooo....I am so confused as well lol. Oh and btw they can tell the results of nt scan right away based on his behind baby's neck, nasal bone, fingers, toes and heart. However it's more accurate in combination with the blood test as they will be able to tell you what the risk is. When is your due date?

hahaha no way! that's funny that they also told you boy! I didn't think they could even see ANTYTHING this early! I mean I'm only 12 weeks! I'm due May 14th, I see you're due May 12th, that's so close to me! I guess we will have to see what they say at our next ultrasound! We were hoping for a girl, but we really just want a healthy baby, so it doesn't really matter. But I think it would be funny if they were wrong!

Same here!! We were hoping for a girl as this is our last and we have 3 boys. Of course we want a healthy baby first and foremost but a girl would be nice. They actually told me boy at my 12 week scan with 2 of my three boys but it was based on a profile shot of the nub and not a potty shot. Do you have a pic of the image they based it off of?

Btw I spoke to my friend who is a ultrasound tech and she said its not very reliable at this stage. However, boys are easier to detect than girls. She did say that a girl can be swollen giving the misconception that it's a boy at this stage. Soooo ya never know lol!

awh a little girl would be great for you! I have 1 boy, he's 6, but we were hoping for a girl this time. Anyway like you said, it doesn't matter as long as it's healthy. I do have a picture! I have to take a picture of the picture, so it won't be that great, but i'll post it in a sec!

The tech said it is a combined test with the ultrasound measurements of the nuchal area and the blood test, and once those have been assessed I'll be contacted with a number that is a ratio for the likelihood of downs syndrome, etc. She did tell me that everything looked fine, the baby measured perfectly, was very active, the nuchal area was so small she could almost not even measure it, which she said was a good thing, but she said she couldn't tell me definitively yes or no just from the scan and it's a ratio and a combined test with the blood test, so I imagine you'll be hearing from your doctor or midwife soon with a number Congratulations on your scan! Did you get to see any kicking or anything?

Yes please post!! She wouldn't give me a pic of it as she said she's not sure but I can look at it during my next visit lol! I sure will be examining it lol!!!

it's not the best picture, but this is what they were looking at. I can definitely tell why they think its a boy, but I just didn't think anything would actually show this early!!

Looks similar to mine! But I've read that they both look similar until 13-14 weeks. I guess we have to wait and see

My doctor say whether the nuchal area was small or anything, she just said everything looked okay for first trimester. I have another ultrasound at 16 weeks, 20, 23, and 30 and I have to have a doctor look at the baby's heart to make sure it's fine, which she said it's really rare that anything will be wrong bc of the medicine i'm taking, and she's never seen a heart problem in a baby due to this medicine, but they want to be sure. Anyway, so I had my blood test done, and the nurse said if I don't hear back from them that's good news. Now i'm worried they're going to call!! lol I'm such a worrier. I did get to see it wiggling around! It had it's hand on its nose, we saw both hands, each had 5 fingers! but she didn't really check the legs/feet so i'm hoping 10 toes as well lol. How about you? Did you get to see your baby moving around in there!? Congrats on your scan too !

Haha that's crazy that it looks the same as yours! I guess we will have to suffer for the next few weeks until we can get a definite answer, but I'm thinking a boy anyway. I thought boy from day one!

Well I hope you don't hear anything back! Aw, that's adorable! I got to see the whole baby, the tech gave me the grand tour. I wished she would slow down, because my baby was moving around so much and I only was able to catch snipets of her movement because the tech was in such a rush to measure everything! I did see my baby hiccup, and then straighten her legs out and kick, and I saw her little hands doing like slow motion judo chops She opened and closed her mouth a few times and her bladder was full (just like mommy!) and I was told she can swallow the amniotic fluid now and will soon be able to pee it out. I find that so weird lol, but natural I guess! She didn't do a potty shot, she tried but she said, "I can't catch up with your baby!" The heartbeat was strong and the belly was so pudgy and I'm so in love

That's great!!! My tech went really fast too because of all the measuring she had to do, so I only saw some wiggling around and it kept flipping from side to side. But we did see hands and counted 5 fingers on each ! It's so exciting!
