Has anyone had difficulty in having someone believe them regarding reflux?

This may sound like a moan and it probably is but i am getting really fed up.

LO is on cow and gate comfort milk and also infant gaviscon prescribed by the doctor.

HV visited today and i told her that i felt the gaviscon no longer worked for my LO.

these are the symptoms LO is getting most feed times:
screaming
back arching
throwing head back
spitting feed
grizzly and irritable after finishing feed
seemed to want more but couldnt swallow and spat back out.

HV fed him for a few seconds and said that he was feediing normally as far as she was concerned (which he did for her!)

she didnt seem to want to accept that i was experiencing the other symptoms for his feeds when im feeding him.

im not happy with him just having gaviscon as he shouldnt have to go through discomfort, yet i dont know what to do with regards to getting help.

do these symptoms sound like reflux or am i just crazy!?

does sound like reflux. my lo has it too and you really have to persevere with the doctors. i'd go and see your doc again. its it not reflux, its still not normal behaviour during a feed so it must be something x

thanks for replying.

HV makes me feel as if im making it up or being fussy or something. my DH is coming to the surgery with me next visit (thursday) as LO has his immunisations, so hopefully we will get somewhere then as he is a little more persistant than i am.

im keeping a feeding diary describing his symptoms with hope that they will actually give me something to help him.

feed diary is a great idea. my hv made me feel like that too, and then when my lo didnt put on enough weight, she realised something was wrong.....unfortunately if your lo is putting weight on well, its much harder to get them to listen to you. but keep trying and dont bother with hvs, they can be really useless, go straight to doc x

thanks for being so friendly hun.

thats the problem - he is putting on enough weight. im just not happy with his discomfort during feeds - which she didnt seem concerned about.

i suppose being his mummy makes me all the more concerned over any little pain he has and im not going to let her make me feel like i shouldnt be concerned.

thank you x

We ended up contacting the paed at the hospital and Lucy was put on a variety of meds which many people have mentioned on here, unfortunately none of them worked for her, and it seems to slowly be sorting itself out - although she stil has bad days like today!!!!!!!! It's worth asking to be referred by your doctor!!

thanks hun - its terrible not being able to make it better isnt it x

We had the exact same thing, just keep going back until they do something, the amount of people that get fobbed off as their baby is putting on weight is unreal

Those are the comments I got on his 8 wks visit "as long as he's adding weight it's ok!", "He'll grow out of it once u start weaning"

We've been struggling with reflux forever, but once we changed formula to anti reflux/stay down one & changed TT CTN bottles with Dr. Browns, & massaging his tummy & feet every night, things got better. At last I dont have to change his clothes after every feed.
