Have any of you changed your LO's surname by Deed Poll?

I never wanted LO to have FOB's surname from day dot. Getting caught up in the emotion I agreed when she was here.....I even changed the name I chose her to suit HIM (he was absent by choice from my whole pregnancy). So I feel like a complete t*&t!

My cousin's 18month old boy died tragically on 1st May and they hadn't got around to getting him christened and did it before his post mortem which I just think is so sad.

I am now determined to get LO christened this year but I am changing my surname and will change hers too.

As she doesn't have passport yet I think now is the best time as she will get her passport in her new surname which will make things easier as she goes through life when she has to show ID as she will use the passport as ID and not have to show her BC and Deed Poll (okay she might at some point but day to day stuff like bank accounts etc).

When I get her christened will this be acceptable? i.e. does the church need to see her BC?

Also has changing their name been pretty straightforward? i.e no issues with getting records changed etc

i changed my childerns surmame by deed poll in 2001 but the law changed i think in 2006 by giving lo fathers surname he has the same rights as you do wether you were married or not so im pretty sure you need his permission

im trying to do the same with my ex atm, you have to have the fob permssion,

my plan is to get deedpoll before fob comes to visit (i did ask him a while ago about it and he agreed to signing it but it was a means of me getting it then sending it to london then relying on him to sign and send it back)

you can wait until he has no contact for a long time and i *think* you need to have a court case open, but i am unsure on that one

He's not on her BC so I don't have to as he doesn't have any parental rights.

If hes not on the birth certificate that you should be able to do it pretty easily, you dont need his permision, i think you can do it online

Yeh looked at how to do it etc, just wanted to hear about any issues after they've done it (not FOB related, screw him lol)....I mean Drs, schools, medical records.....once I get her passport in the new name I will probably find it easier to use her new name as the PP will be used as ID and not the BC.

I changed my sons name by deed poll, but I'd also changed all of his medical records and school records without any problem!

I simply told the school when I registered him that I wanted to use a different surname to his birth certificate, called the child benefit office and told them I'd changed his name and filled in a form at the doctors, nobody batted an eyelid and I finally applied for the deed poll about 2 years later! :winkwink:

Ah thanks for this, sounds easy then.

Going to do it in a month's time, get her christened them apply for her passport so this early on I don't think it would affect her as much :flower:

I changed James's name by deed poll. I had to have FOB's permission cos he was on the BC. But I've had no problems with getting it changed elsewhere. Today I phoned CTC and CB and both changed it without even asking to see the Deed Poll. The drs he has been known in my name for ages! Same with pre-school waiting list and all sorts. Has been pretty easy.

I'm getting my son's name changed once we get back from holiday next week as his passport still has FOB's name.

I want all my children to have the same sirname thankyou very much :)
