I received all my payslips from June today in the post as have been on maternity leave and not been there to collect them.

When arranging my leave I asked to take 9 months leave and to have my wages spread equally over 9 months so I didn't have the last 3 months with only SMP.

Well my wages have been going in every month and have been the same amount so I thought all was well.....that was until I opened all the payslips today.

Work have been paying me full basic pay every month and not maternity pay so have overpaid me from the beginning...I now face having to pay back £2500 or more!!

This sent me into a mild panic, but OH says its not my fault and I should ask to repay it gradually. I called payroll and they have received no information regarding my pregnancy and maternity leave. The woman I spoke to said I;d have to pay it back which I already knew but nothing was said to how and how much. I then spoke to my manager's secretary and she said they'd lost all my personal information and I need to get a new matB1 form and redo my maternity interview!!!! Really don't need this hassle!

Anyone had similar happen to them?

When my mum left her last job (council) they kept paying her her full wage for around 8 months - she wrote to them 6 times, called over 20 times, and they just kept paying her old wage. Eventually they asked for all of it back at once. Her solicitor advised her that since it was their mistake it was lawful for her to pay them back at a level she could afford - even if that was £10 a week (on a £30k+ debt that wasn't ideal though!). I'd wait for them to put their mistake in writing, then write back explaining you can't afford to repay all at once, this was their mistake, and propose to repay at say £100 a month out of your salary once you return to work.

She's lost all your personal information and your MatB1? That's a huge error on her part, and you shouldn't have to suffer because of her incompetence? I would inform them of the error and agree a payment plan. They may query why you didn't think the monthly payments were so high, but at the end of the day, you haven't had your payslips and they made the mistake, so don't let them demand all the money back at once
