have i made a rod for my own back, or are others wrong?

I co-slept with James until he was 6 months old and I absolutely loved it and hes such a content happy baby and I'm sure thats why. At 6 months he was very mobile, spent the whole time prodding me and trying to pull my eyelids open so I decided to put him in his cot. I felt ready to do it though and he had the best start iykwim?

Anyway I did have to do the baby whisperer pick up/put down method but it worked like a dream, we had no real tears, just a bit of frustration on his part and after 3 weeks I can say he just slept through the night on his own for the first time! I dont think I made a rod for my own back, we made the transition smoothly, when we both needed to and I'm glad I had the reassurance of having him close to me when he needed me
