I am a third year psychology student looking for females aged over 18 who have blogged throughout their experience of IVF and would participate in an interview (no longer than one hour) discussing your individual experience of IVF and whether blogging has helped you or not.
Researchers have found that using the internet as an outlet promotes real world isolation (Epstein, Rosenberg, Grant and Hemenway, 2002). This suggests blogging may have negative effects, however other researchers have found that expressive writing can improve mental and physical health (Baikie and Wilhelm, 2005), and have observed that use of the internet during infertility promoted new support networks which made users feel less alone (Kahlor and Mackert, 2009). This suggests that blogging could be beneficial for people who are experiencing IVF.
The aim of this study is to better understand how blogging affects peoples experience of IVF. Data will be kept confidential and anonymous. You can withdraw your interview from the research up until 1st April if you decide you do not want your data to be used.
This project will be supervised by Dr. Rachel Cook.
If you are interested in participating please send me a private message or reply to this thread.
