Have you ever forgotten to buckle the car seat?

Yes we did, she was strapped in but the seatbelt wasnt strapped properly around the chair. Really shook me up. The next time we took that journey we had a near miss serious accident (there was an invisible deep flood in the dark in the middle lane of the motor way, blocked drain or something and we went right over it the water was so deep it splashed over the whole windscreen completely blinding us for several seconds, in fact just as it happened we saw the ambulances and fire engines arrive as there had been a nasty crash right there a few minutes before and the cars had managed to get to the hard shoulder, it was so scary, could easily have been a fatality if a car had gone over it with a lorry at the side)... Any way, since then and having that subsequent near miss, I've been a lot more paranoid x

Yes. I think DS was around 4 or 5 months old. I had gone to pick the dog up from the vet. We were waiting for the vet for a good 20 minutes, so I unbuckled DS to make him a little more comfortable. Vet came and went. We got in the car. We made it half a kilometer down the road when I realized I didn't buckle him back up. I pulled over ASAP. Uhhh, felt so guilty, but was thankful that nothing happened.

I did this YESTERDAY!! My Lo is 6 weeks old, he was strapped into his car seat, but his car seat wasn't buckled in with the seat belt (the seat belt was wrapped round the seat but not plugged in iykwim  I got 10 mins round the corner to Tescos, went to unplug his and realised, felt sooooooooooooooooooooo guilty and relived that nothing had happened, I haven't yet confessed to anyone I know :haha:
cant remember the age but yes i think i did sth similar.

No but when DH buckles them in he makes it so loose they may as well not be strapped in. He always tells me I make it too tight, but I can still fit two fingers under so its perfect. The first time I had him buckle one in we drove all the way to the doctor (about an hour) and got all the way upstairs before I noticed. I was about ready to kill him. When he brought them to pick me up from the hospital he did the same thing (after the doctor incident I just strapped both of them in myself). I keep stessing that they have to be snug or its not safe but he just doesn't listen.
my oh is the same.

Once.

LO was about 15 months and we went to a private seller to test drive a truck and we were so excited we put LO in and drove around the block! Only did I notice we hadn't buckled her was when she came up behind me and touched me. We both started screaming and pulled over, LOL.

My mom forgot buckle my carseat in the car when i was a couple weeks old (back when carseats were super unstable) and she turned a corner and i flipped completely upside down! !

Don't feel bad OP. I think it happens to lots of people, just unfortunate it happened when you bumped someone.
It's happened twice to me in the last 2 months. First time DH and I drove for about 2 minutes, were sat at traffic lights and something didn't feel right. Turned round and I hadn't put the seatbelt clip in the buckle. This made me super paranoid to always check the seatbelt buckle was clipped. SO paranoid, I spend so much time checking it, that the other week, I spent ages tugging the clip checking it was in, only to arrive at my Mum's and realise I hadn't clipped her into the actual carseat :dohh:

Yes though Hannah was over 3 at the time. It was right after we'd found out that we'd lost a baby (second pregnancy was originally a twin pregnancy) and we were both in a bit of a shell shocked state. Anyways we drove 5-10 minutes home and realized as soon as we got home  Felt terrible but mistakes happen. Just glad that everything was okay!

Hannah was old enough to tell us she wasn't buckled  not sure why she didn't! :dohh:

Yup! It's happened a few times. But I've only ever forgotten to buckle the part that goes between her legs. Usually when I have her in her carseat attached to the stroller, I don't bother to buckle that part so she can move more freely without being able to get out of her seat completely. Then I forget to buckle it when I put her back in the car. It just happened the other day!

Hasn't happened to me yet, but mistakes happen. As long as nothing happened don't feel guilty.

I usually leave the carseat strapped in the car and just put LO in and out of carseat, occasionally OH will unstrap carseat to get LO out. It happened once where he forgot to strap it back and I thought it was strapped in, we go round a roundabout and the carseat just slides from the left side of the car to the right, I screamed like a crazy woman but LO was absolutely fine so its kinda funny now (I have to laugh or I'd cry). Definitely a lesson learned!!!

Yes it happened with DD1 when she was in her carseat I think she was around 2 and it was a ff one, well we had strapped her into the seat but the seat wasn't strapped to the car (dh gets the blame for this one lol) we went off on our journey and went around a corner and the seat tipped and landed on its side with DD attached! I was mortified but can sort of laugh about it now, I haven't forgotten with dd2 yet but I'm also extra vigilant now since I was in a car crash when I was 4/5 months pregnant, scared the crap out of me

I did once, LO was maybe 6 weeks old? She was in her infant carrier and we were shopping, and I unbuckled her because she looked squashed and uncomfortable. She had a blanket over her, and when I put her back in the car I totally forgot that she was unbuckled. We only drove a very short way, maybe 5 minutes, but I felt absolutely horrible when I saw what I had done. Now I don't unbuckle her unless I'm taking her out of the seat.

I live in Australia where it is a legal requirement to use a car seat with a top tether and I have forgotten to tighten that on several occasions. It's so annoying. Top tethers are one of my pet peeves.
