There are a couple of methods that may work. I too had a cyst that burst when I was 14 and they did an ultra sound and said everything looked good, but I don't remember if they talked about anything else. The biggest thing is that if you are having irregular cycles, try the standard days method or the calender method and then check your cervical mucus.
The calendar method takes your longest and shortest cycle into consideration to give you a time period for your fertile window.
To best explain it I will demonstrate with my own cycle- I typically range from 27-31 days so I would take the 27 day cycle and subtract 18 which gives me 9. I would then take 31 and subtract 11 which gives me 20. That means between calendar days 9 and 20 I would be considered fertile so during that 11 day period, I would take the opks and then if you feel comfortable take your middle finger and insert it into your vagina. When you are up there kind of try to gather any of the moister there and bring it back out. If the moister is breaks easily, or looks like lotion, you are probably not fertile. But, if it spreads easily and is translucent, you are more fertile. Try taking the opks here as well... The other thing I have heard is that opks don't detect ovulation per say. They detect a surge that indicates ovulation has happened or will happen within 36 hours depending on when you catch the surge. I have read it is better to take them in the afternoons after at least 4 hours of not drinking water or using the bathroom. I have also heard it is common to not get positives so you look for other things as well. I have always been told that if your period comes monthly then you are most likely ovulating because you would not get a period if you were not.....
I personally just use the calendar and cm not really much else because I feel it too stressful to worry if I am ovulation or not and if I got continuous negatives I would freak out.....
