Apparently we can't take anything for it, is this true? Not sure how long I can take of this sneezing and eyes itching etc

I give you my full sympathy hun! mine started yesterday and it is all ready driving me loopy!

I'm also under the impression that we can't take anything either, but I have heard that local honey is meant to be good for clearing up hay fever! Just need to track some down and find out!

Hope you find a solution soon!x

Thanks babe, I have some honey in the fridge from when my OH had a sore throat lol, so will try some of that even though I find honey revolting! xx

If it's that's bad go see your GP, they can prescribe antihistamine that is ok in pregnancy.

I was prescribed piriton in my last pregnancy, the pharmacy won't sell it over the counter but you can get it on prescription.

For me the minute risk of antihistamine was totally outweighed by my need for it, I was suffering so bad. Luckily I don't seem that affected this time round :)

I usually have prescription tablets but was advised not to take antihistamine so I am sticking to that. But they did say I could use my beconase nasal spray sparingly. It's s nightmare, I definitely feel your pain. My friend said she had seen some gel advertised that was safe in pregnancy so going to try and find out what it is x

Suffering here too. GP said antihystamines are untested so they may or may not be dangerous in pregnancy. The risk wasn't worth it to me. I use Prevalin nasal spray which works well and specifically says it's safe for pregnancy and BFing - it's not drug based, it is a substance that coats inside the nose to stop pollen getting into your system. HayMax is another non-drug treatment - it's a gummy substance you apply to the bottom of your nose and it traps the pollen before it goes up your nose. The GP did say sodium cromoglycate eye drops are safe, and MW agreed so I'm using them, and alternating with Allerclear which are gentle herbal eye drops - I keep them in the fridge to be more soothing. I still get really itchy eyes sometimes but better than before. A friend has recommended a neti pot for flushing out my sinuses when I've been somewhere pollen-y, so I've just ordered one but haven't tried it yet.

Re honey, it needs to be local honey, not just regular supermarket stuff. The idea is that it acclimatises your system gradually to the local allergens and pollen. I tried to get some, but no local beekeepers got back to me. :(

Kess mentions haymax - I find Vaseline just around the edges of my nostrils works just as well. Not brilliant, but better than nothing!! & she's right - honey needs to be local honey - I heard within two miles if your house ideally. I could never find any THAT local :(

I also find my contact lenses and/or sunglasses help protect my eyes a little.

I have spd & each sneeze is slaying me!!!!

The Nhs website says you can take loratadine tablets and piriton - though the piriton not too close to delivery. I double checked with my consultant and they said it's fine to take. Nasal sprays are good too

Rang my doctors up this morning and she prescribed me with nasal spray and eye drops that I am familiar with using anyway, she said because I am so far in to my pregnancy now that it isn't a risk which was a relief! :) currently can breathe through my nose and see through my eyes xx

I've got the midwife tomorrow so I'll see what she recommends!

Yeah the honey has to be local (sorry if I didn't say that!):dohh: I asked my neighbour where I could find some and she says that it's not in season yet seemingly too early!ho him!:haha:

Glad you ladies are getting some relief I'm fed up wetting myself every time I sneeze:blush::haha:

Hope all is sorted now Hun xx

Hiya!:flower: sorry it took so long to get back to ladies:blush:

Midwife couldn't recommend anything, her suggestion was speak to a doctor or pharmicist:wacko: so considering it would take over a week to get a doc appointment I thought I would speak to a pharmacist in Boots who point blank refused to give me anything, I left Boots in tears:cry:

So came home checked this thread again and noticed someone had used Prevalin nasal spray, so decided to check this on the internet. Lo and behold what was the first site that came up? Yep, Boots! I was so bloody mad!:growlmad:

Phoned in sick to work today because I was wheezing so bad, could barely speak and was sneezing my head off. So OH decided to take us out of town and try a larger Boots store and hallelujah they had Prevalin and I bought it no bother! Two puffs up each nostril and not one sneeze, running nose has cleared and all wheezing has gone! Feeling ten times better already! :happydance:

So a BIG thank you to who ever suggested Prevalin. You are a STAR!x and to Trinaestella thank you for starting this thread!:flower:
