Morning ladies,

I've been struggling with a terrible headache since yesterday and not sure if I can take paracetamol.

I'm 11+5 and the way it's worded on NHS website it's ok after 12w although its really not explicit.

I can't get speaking to my doc til tomorrow.

Anyone know the answer? If I can't take paracetamol, any other suggestions? Xx

Make sure u are keeping hydrated drink cold water, if your indoors but a cold wet tissue on your head or wrap something frozen in a tea towel, also they do like headache rubs where you rub this stick on your forhead but if you cant get one of them just get a vapour rub like vic and put that on your head at night, it really helps me, another thing you are aloud to take paracetemol, but i would only take it one or two times a week at the most as doing this has not been linked to any risks, also try and relax, have a bath or drink some hot lemon and honey water, hope one of these works for you, x

I think you're allowed to take paracetamol throughout the whole of pregnancy. I find either a warm or cold compress on the area which is giving me jip helps (really depends on the sort of headache if it needs to be hot or cold - you'll have an inkling though as to what will help)... Otherwise a dark room, lots of fluids, and possibly even a nice warm (remember we're not allowed hot) bath.

Hugs hun, I hate headaches :hugs:

Thanks ladies. I'd tried the compress, darkened room, fresh air, lots of fluids.

Had no luck so resorted to taking one paracetamol.

Hope this headache goes soon or I'll never get through this day at work!! Xx

I feel for you honey, i've had a headache since Friday evening and paracetemol have done bugger all for it. You could try 4Head? It's like a roll on thingy and i'm pretty sure it's safe to use in pregnancy.

Edit: Yes it can be used in pregnancy :) https://www.4headaches.co.uk/faq.ashx#8

Maybe try that as well as the paracetamol if they don't shift it! Xx

If it persists, give NHS Direct a call: 0845 46 47. They'll be able to offer advice and suggestions that fit your circumstances :) You can get to speak to a nurse too. I've always found them great. HTH

I really feel for you as I have also been suffering badly with headaches too, one developed into a migraine because I was holding out and not treating it. I ended up seeing the doctor at a night clinic who gave me paracetamol (and one diazipam to knock me out although I am still not sure if this was the right thing to have given me but I was now nauseaus and couldn't bear the light).

I can't really add much to the above advice. I did have a small, weak coffee one day (I have stopped drinking coffee since I found out) and that actually helped because a lot of these headache cures contain caffeine so there is some logic there.

The paracetamol is not helping. I can't work out if I'm coming down with something or whether this is hormone related as I feel a bit nauseous too. Urgghh :(

To be honest, the paracetamol did not even touch the sides for me either...I just went into hibernation for 24 hours, and even wore sunglasses in the house as I couldn't stand the light - I looked a right treat!

I have been getting a lot of headaches thus far, and for the past 2 weeks or so they have been occuring daily. I've had a couple progress into migraines, which I never had before becoming pregnant. I have resisted taking any medicine because I just don't trust it with the frequency...I'd be taking it everyday and I personally feel that is too much ("safe" or not safe in pregnancy). My saving graces have been cold packs, head massages (love my hubby for this!) and naps. Oddly enough, I have found that putting something cold on my neck has helped more than putting it directly on the affected area of my forehead. Don't ask me why. I only tried it because WTEWYE mentioned something about it. Worked for me. Yesterday I had a bad headache and it was spreading down to my neck. Put the cold pack on for 20 minutes or so, then wound up taking a nap. When I woke up, both the headache and the neck pain were gone.

I had a horrendous headache on Saturday. What actually helped a ton was a latte. I only drink a couple a week now, so I know the headache wasn't caffeine withdrawal, but man, it really worked. Caffeine changes the diameter of your blood vessels, including the ones in your brain, so the change must have tweaked something enough to make the pain stop. Now, the headache came back a few hours later, so I took 500 MG of acetaminophen, which is the same as paracetamol. It helped, but not as much as the latte!

A super hot shower helps me sometimes along with a heating pad to the back/neck area. I suppose it depends on your type of headache though!

Ive been dealing with terrible headaches as well. It's fine to take acetomidifine (Tylenol) I'm sure you all have it in UK. It didn't help with all of mine however, my doc presrbed me something when the are really bad. I know mine are due to hormones. If you can allow yourself.. drink a coke. The small amount of caffiene can really help.
