I took Thomas to the baby clinic yesterday to get him weighed as I do every month. His weight gain is fine and he is just above the 25th centile thingy where he has always been.

The health visitor asked me if I had started weaning and I explained I'd tried him with apple&blueberry porridge and also puréed carrot, potato and broccoli and that he just spits everything out so I've decided to wait a while.

She said that due to his age I really need to start weaning him and that if I give him the same thing 17 times then he will like it :/ she also told me to mix some chocolate pudding with his food and then he will eat it but surely that will get him used to sweet food when I have been told my a different health visitor that he needs to start off on savoury food...

Now I'm completely head blagged and don't know what to do. I don't feel he is ready for weaning and his weight gain is fine so what is the rush?

I also asked her about baby led weaning and she told me to book on the weaning course because she couldn't help me. Rang the course and it's fully booked grr!

Mix food with chocolate pudding......is this numpty really a health professional!! Id go with your instincts, she really doesn't sound like she has a clue. She doesn't even sound as though she listened to you. If you feel your son isn't ready and hes doing well with weight gain just ignore her advice. My hv told me I could start weaning early but I waited until 6mo to do BLW. So glad I did, Lo is a great eater. The BLW cookbook is fab for advice, see if your local library can get it for you. Also the BLW website is a fab source of info. If you have any queries put questions on here, you will get lots of helpful advice.

I'm away to mix chocolate pud with some cabbage...I'm sure I'll love it!!! Ha

My thoughts exactly! I even told her I wanted to do BLW and she still said I need to be giving him food now. I think it's better to wait until he can sit unaided which he isn't far off. I don't know why she felt the need to force the issue! Silly cow! I will have a look for that book thank you :)

What a dumb advice:dohh: He's just not ready!! When I started DD on solids at 4.5 months, she would eat anything, and it still hasn't changed!! It shouldn't be hard to feed him, so try again in a few weeks :)

And dont worry about it if Lo still doesn't seem that fussed at 6mo. My Lo was closer to 7 1/2mo before he was really eating food. The fantastic thing about BLW is the main focus allows baby to be in charge of what goes in their mouth (and what doesn't). I love that we eat as a family on a regular basis, all eating exactly the same thing. It's also been great for us, as we eat a lot healthier, we don't use salt at all, and use low salt stock cubes. Both me & OH like cooking so we have had fun adapting recipes to suit Lo's needs. Weaning hasn't been stressful or a battle of wills. I really want mealtimes to be relaxed, and about us coming together as a family at the table, not just eating food.

Everything biglebowski said. Trust your instincts & you will know when your LO is ready. Where do they find some of these Health Visitors...chocolate pudding?!
We're doing a bit of BLW & TW mixed, mostly because we're awaiting allergy testing & a bit restricted. But BLW is great, and will allow your LO to go at his own pace. Have fun!
