My OH and I live with my 87 year old grandmother and she got up in the middle of the night complaining about her ear hurting from where she slept on it funny and got it folded underneath her. Her doctor prescribed her Voltaren gel for her other aches and pains and she had me put a little glob on behind her ear. I just read how dangerous it is to use in the 3rd trimester and now I am freaking out. I had wiped it off my finger immediately after applying it and then washed my hands after I went to the bathroom but now I am terrified I hurt my baby!

Id give your Midwive a ring, just to put your mind at ease hun! I shouldn't think you have done any harm though if it was only a small amount. xo

I would also say to ring your midwife/OB to check, but that since you did wipe it off immediately and you've not put a big glob of it on yourself and left it to soak in, you should be fine xx

I'm fairly certain it's because of its anti-inflammatory properties (it's got the same properties as Advil/Ibuprofen) that they say not to use it in late pregnancy, but since the amount you actually used was tiny and given that it was a topical gel and not taken orally, the chances of much, if any, entering your blood stream (and passing to baby) are very very small. x

After reading as much as we could about it, My OH tried to calm me down explaining that i would probably have to have been using it over and over again on a daily basis before it would become harmful. Like if i was to take ibuprofen everyday or something. It is a class D drug for pregnant women, but it was such a tiny amount he thinks I'm probably fine. We read about instances when women with lupus used NSAIDS and were just closely monitored while they were taking it. I just wish I would have stopped and thought first...

We've all probably done something that we should have stopped and thought about first in pregnancy. I know I've definitely eaten some things without thinking etc and if you had to think about every single tiny move you made then it would be a pretty miserable 9 months xx

I also read this morning on the tube the actual dosing instructions, which were a 1 to 2 inch strip of medicine (which equaled 2 to 4 grams of medicine) on the affected area 4 times a day. Considering i used enough just to cover the tip of my finger, and it was only once, I feel better...but there is NOTHING like reading about how dangerous something is in the 3rd trimester and could cause heart defects to make you absolutely panic.
