hi all!

so I had my daughter in the uk so I have no clue how things go here!

I got a bfp yesterday, should I go to my pcp or the obgyn to have the pregnancy confirmed.

also, I haven't actually signed up to and obgyn yet, from my in network list, many have specialists, should I be looking for one in particular?

thanks, feel so stupid having to ask all this stuff as already have a dd but things a re so diff here!

I called my OBGyn when I had a + test. I just go to a normal OBGyn - just make sure the are ob's and not just gyn - I didn't realize until a few years ago myself, but some are just gyn's which means they don't deal with the baby stuff, just the female part stuff. :)

You can also go through your pcp for the early testing and they can refer you to an OBGyn at that point. That might be a better option since you don't have an ob yet. That way you can go t one that your DR likes and recommends. Do you need a referral under your health plan?

Hey don't feel silly!!

when I got my BFP, I went to my normal family doctor to confirm. I already had a lady OBGYN in mind.. and discussed that with my family doctor, when pregnancy was confirmed. From there I called and made my appointment with my OBGYN.

Good luck and congrats!!!! Let us know if you have any other questions. I do know things differ in the United States depending on where you live, and what OBGYN you go to also. :D

Don't worry its confusing for me too! I'm from Canada originally and moved to the states a couple years ago :)
I guess you'd hafta see about your insurance, if maternity is covered, and then if there are certain locations that they cover etc.. with me I have insurance, but not the maternity part, so I basically just googled what I was looking for, (I wanted to see a midwife) and then called to make an appt  good luck!

I called an obgyn when I got my bfp They didn't want to confirm it, they just had me make my first appointment. I picked the doctor because she is covered by my insurance and i knew someone else who used her and I also did some google research on the obgyns on my plan. I'm not sure what i'd do if I was new to an area... Good luck!

Google is great for finding a doctor that is well rated! I chose mine that way, he has high ratings and is also an all-around guy, he does regular low risk and high risk pregnancies. Since I have a preexisting condition, I went that route. There are nurse midwives that perhaps interest you more, it is all up to you. :)

OBGYN honey. Usually they have you come in at 8 weeks confirm it and date you with ultrasound. If your 35 or older they will give you option to have perinatal testing.

My OB required a confirmation blood test and then wouldn't see me until 10+ weeks. I chose the OB because she had okay reviews online and accepted my insurance. Because I was sure of my conception time she wouldn't do a dating ultrasound. There is the option of midwives, too, if available.

No need to call your regular doctor and confirm unless you really want to. I just called up the obgyn practice my sister had gone too and made an appointment there. My first appointment included an ultrasound for dating purposes. I have irregular cycles so not sure if they would have done one that early otherwise. Every practice you go to will differ. Some will want you to do a test in office to confirm and some will do ultrasound. Good luck on finding a obgyn you like.

I didn't even have a regular doctor when I tested positive on a home test. I asked a co-worker. They referred me to a OB they used. You can always see what hospital you want to use and can usually find a Doctor's group of Gynecologists/Obstetricians that are affiliated with that hospital. Good luck!:hugs:

I went to my town's health clinic for an "official" pregnancy test which I took to my ob/gyn who set up an 8 week appointment/health history/GTT.
