I just ate haslet!!! I looked it up and it just said pork meat-loaf but I've since been told it contains liver!! What should I do? Does taking an extra folic acid tablet help? Oh my goodness, what if I've just damaged my baby??!!!

this is why the food ''no list'' sometimes causes problems.... STOP PANICKING.

liver will not make you OR your baby ill unless it was infected (with food poisoning - listeria) in the first place. when have you ever had food poisoning from liver/pate etc? exactly - probably never. Its on the NO list because IF you were unlucky enough to eat infected liver then it COULD be highly dangerous to you and your baby...

... so chances are strongly in your favor that you are FINE. no need to take extra folic or anything hun :)

Relax :) and just dont eat it again haha

ps. i train in food hygiene and woldnt say this if i didnt believe it :flower:

Thank you.. I thought it was on the no-list because it is high in vitamin A and causes neural tube defects?? :/
Xx

it has vitimin a in it, but the amount you have eaten (as a once off) is NOT going to do any harm. vitimin a wont hurt our baby in sparodic small amounts (some other stuff we eat has low amounts), its more the larger amounts which are problematic as can harm bone structure etc xx so its not advised to eat liver (due to listeria and also being high in vit a) - but trust me, your baby will be fine after only having it just the once!!

Try not to panic :)

ps... here is some info on vitimin A so you can see recommended amounts etc :) https://www.babycenter.com/0_vitamin-a-in-your-pregnancy-diet_675.bc

I ate a McFlurry the otherday, and I saw my baby again today, we're perfectly fine lol. aparently mcflurries are non pasteruised.. or something, were good though :)

The liver issue is vitamin A, but you would need to eat a lot and more than once to cause any harm.
Best thing you can do is drink lots of fluids, then try not to worry about it. When our parents were having children eating liver was recommended as a good thing because of the iron in it!!

Iate one of these before i realised too! Oooops

I knew you couldnt eat a Mcflurry.. but whos to stop a woman with a craving right lol :) Just aslong as you dont overdo it everything should be fine x

Thanks girls.. I'm just paranoid!! :)

I know what you mean about mcflurries!! Oh what I would give for one!

Xx

Don't worry just don't eat it again! you would probably have to eat a lot for it to do damage so don't panic x

Mcflurrys are pasturized. McDonalds would never risk having something on their menu's that could make people sick. The worry with soft serve is when they don't clean their machines regularly enough and then it can make people sick but McDonalds also has very high food safety standards.

Sister's friend works at McDonalds and she said that all their ice creams, mayos etc are all pastories and safe to eat when ur preggers, so dont worry :winkwink:

Just to clarify that some vitamin A is fine, just not huge amounts of it. You yourself need some in your diet for things like sight, immunity against infections, and cellular regeneration, as will the baby. It's contained in foods other than liver, dairy products and such like and no one has ever warned against them. It's just particularly high levels in liver.

I work in mcdonalds also and they said the same.. still thinking about it I cant remember them cleaning the flurry machine.. not since Ive been there anyway! EW, now I feel sick.
