Right, my baby is only 5 days old, he was a biggen at birth (10lb 2) and i have had him on SMA gold ever since, the problem is he is CONSTANTLY hungry, he is now on 7oz bottles which I think is ridiculous for his age, the health visitor said I shouldnt move him onto hungrier baby milk but if thats not a hungrier baby I dont know what is!! He will take 5 oz wait 20 mins till he has a bit more room then crys for some more, then will take another 2 ozs, he tends to go every 3 hours till teatime and then about 2 hours his last few feeds of the day, I feel like I'm constantly feeding! Ive tried cuddling with a dummy so its not comfort he really is hungry, anyone any suggestions? to say my health visitor is out of touch is an understatement! xxx

Your baby started out quite a bit bigger than average so it makes sense to me that he will eat more than average. If the doctor's aren't worried about it, I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey, I wouldnt move him onto hungry baby milk just yet. My son used to drink 6 ounces every 2 hours when he was that young. He wasnt as big (8lbs 14) but I was concerned like you so I moved him onto the hungry baby milk and it really upset his tummy! I talked to my hv about it and she said to just wait it out, he will slow down in his own time. I put him back on sma gold, feeding every 2 hours and he did slow down and took a big growth spurt with it! Feed your baby what he wants as often as he wants. Its very early days, hope this helps :)

Jessica was 10lb 1oz at birth and was quite a hungry baby too I changed her to hungrier milk at around 10-12 weeks I think. She was also on Gold until I swapped her to the blue top one. xXx

My son had sma white, lol hungrier baby milk at abt 8 weeks, and he was born weighing 9lb 4.5 oz.

Forgot to say. Jason is on SMA white now (moving to progress in couple of weeks) I started him on it properly when he was about 8 weeks old when he started to want feeding every 1.5 hours!! He has slowed down now again and isnt taking as much as I would like(hoping that will change with progress). I would honestly suggest giving your baby a couple of weeks to settle down. I know it might be difficult(not to mention awkward) but its better than risking a funny tummy so soon when he may settle. If he doesn't by all means try him on sma white or whatever brand you wish and If you want to try him on it now then do so. Follow your instincs as a mother, what works for some other mother and her baby might now work for you and yours. :)

Thanks Ladies, I was worrying because he has to work so hard to fill up his tummy and he's behaving like i'm feeding him water! will stick with it a while, I dont mind the fact that i'm feeding so often it was more of the fact that he has to work so hard to be satisfied, I thought about switching to another brand but i'm worried about upsetting his tummy, its hard to know what to do for the best sometimes, I would hate to switch and make him ill! xxx

Dylan was 9lb 6 at birth and was taking about 5oz every couple of hours at first. Was also told not to put him on hungrier baby so soon (its a different kind of protein which is harder to digest and so stays in the stomach longer), and he did settle down a bit. I think he was about 9 weeks when we moved him to blue cap - he also started wanting a feed after an hour and a half and increasing to 7oz made him sick. As long as he is keeping the milk down then he isnt having too much. If they have to much, you'll know about it!

have you tried giving him water inbetween? so give him 5oz milk and then 2oz water.

IF you think he needs to go onto the hungrieer milk do it - just tell tell the HV. tell them what they NEED to know not what they WANT to know. keep the tin from gold on the worktop by kettle etc for home visits but they are NOT allowed to go through your cupboards etc.
