Hi All, hope everyone is well!
i hope that this forum isn't just for mothers if so i am sorry if i have offended any one for joining, i just have some questions to ask and you guys may have the answers i need :).

Any way, i am becoming increasingly concerned about my fiance who is now 16 weeks pregnant, and is suffering badly with sickness and dizziness.

She is currently working as a care worker at a care home, and obviously there is alot of heavy lifting involved and it isn't doing her any good as shes pregnant.
The job is causing her alot of stress and the workers because she is unable to do alot of things because of the risk it imposes to her and baby.

So my question is,

If she was to leave due to this situation, is there any help she can recieve of government?

as in can she claim job seekers, or any sort of benefit untill tax credits start when baby is due?

She currently lives with me in a private rented house, and i am earning around £1000 after tax a month in a full time job doing 48 hours a week, and it only just clears the bills.

would this mean we are not entitled to help with council tax benefit and housing benefit?

any help would be greatfully helpful.

if she is doing a job that is not safe in pregnancy then her employers need to find her different work or give her time off with full pay. has she told them she is pregnant yet? if not she needs to and legally they must do a risk assessment and then find her different work if it is dangerous (which lifiting is)
 
It doesn't sound like she should have to leave her job, employers have a responsibilty to take care of their staff especially when they are pregnant, don't know what her
maternity package is like with her job but if she left then she would be giving that up. I am pretty sure that you can start you maternity leave from about 24 weeks so if it really is a problem she could start her maternity early. There is plenty of stuff on the internet about employer responsibilities with pregnant staff try googling it.

Hi Caz, yes she has told them she is pregnant, and has filled in a few forms, all they are trying to do is put her on days from her nights, but thats not going to help in my oppinion.

On some paper work she filled in, it says you can take maternity 11 weeks from when babys due, which makes it 29 weeks pregnant, meaning she still has a good 13 weeks or so to go, which is going to be a problem i feel.

We just concerned if she gives up the job, we will struggle financially and get no help.

Now that is a very good idea, as maybe if this is the case, she will still be employed and liable to maternity pay? and the job back when returning to work once babys arrived (obv not straight away tho!!)

i think, although i may be wrong that if she is signed off then her maternity pay starts straight away. She is def still employed and entitled to her job after pregnancy. Your oh should ask to see the risk assessment form as they have a legal requirement to complete one
 
Having worked in care myself , If she has indeed told them she is pregnant then she should be removed from using all the heavy mechanical lifting gear, Lifting some patients should also be a no no. Working day or night doesn't really matter, Her boss should be finding alternative work for her. If your fiance chooses to leave then she will not be entitled to jsa as she left a job she had, I don't think you would be entitled to housing benefit as you work full time & it also goes off your wage so its unlikely you would get help but i couldn't say for defo. I dont even know if she would be entitled to jsa living with you either.

The doc wont sign her off unless there is a medical reason for her not to work, If it is just the fact the boss hasn't changed what she is doing then he can write a letter to say no heavy lifting etc & her boss will have to change what she is doing. If she is ill & is struggling to work even if in a sitting down job then yes he can sign her off sick, She will get so long as sick then if it continued her boss can make her take early maternity leave far as i know.
