i think my wee man Jenson whos 5 weeks might have silent reflux. What do you guys think. He is normally very contened baby but over the last few days things have changed.

He has had a problem with wind and is on dr brown bottes and infracol which was working, but over the past few days he has been very unsettled seems to be having stomach pains. He is constantly waking up screaming and farting which is worse when he has just been fed... seems to be wanting bottles but then after taking 2oz he keeps spitting the rest out and is thrashing about, but his mouth is going as if he still is hungry. He also was never a sicky baby but seems to be gagging on his bottle and bringing up a lot, especially when he is in his cot after feeds. Another thing is he seems to be having very loose nappies, every time he dirties his whole clothes need to be changed.

I really dont know what to do?

just had to respond to your post....

sounds like silent reflux. my daughter has it and was starting to survive on practically no milk at all. feeding her was a battle. was lucky to get 12ozs into her a day (should be on 32). She had all the symptoms your describing. After many visits to the GP she was admitted into hosptial and they confirmed silent reflux. She is now on Ranitadine 0.8mls X 3 per day. She has greatly improved. Her weight gain had really slowed down, her skin was a mess and just slept all day.

it is a horrible condition if left untreated. just go to your gp and say you suspect your LO has silent reflux. it is amazing how gps just think of reflux as vomitting. my lo was hysterical when feeding her, but clearly hungry.

good luck hun.

edited to add: if your LO is getting LOTS of loose, foul smelling nappies it could also be a cows milk protein intolerance. What is his skin like? Is he wheezing? Coughing a lot during the night? X

just me again.....

you can buy a milk thickner called 'CAROBEL' and this will help with the vomitting. Also, try tilting his mattress as that helps reflux babies. Also, smaller feeds help too.

good luck.

You need to make an appointment with your GP who will confirm if it is or isnt reflux and then they will give you some meds to ease it. Hope you can get some answers soon :)

thanks for the replies girls, been a mad week so only getting back now. After many trips to doctor and phonecalls The gp has give me gaviscon to try which seems to be helping a bit tho at quite a few feeds is still starting to refuse milk after 2oz even tho still hungry. Have the health visitor out on wednesday again so maybe he needs something else.

He does have quite a few wee spots on his skin, i thought were milk spots tho? maybe not?

Have a word with the health visitor.

My Jenson has reflux too. Hes 9 weeks old today and has only just come out of neonatal. He tried gaviscon and other types that didnt work. Hes on a special milk called enfamil now which has worked a treat! xx

did you find gaviscon makes them constipated. Hes been very unsettled this evening and think thats why. Since starting the gaviscon his nappies have went from very loose to very hard, sorry tmi lol. Hope your wee man is doing well sam, had been keeping an eye on your updates in third trim:flower:
