Help with constipation.....

Evening ladies,

Sorry it's a bit of a tmi post but I'm really starting to struggle with constipation.

How has everyone else coped with it? What sort of over the counter things have you used (UK)

I've already increased my fibre intake, I have several pieces of fruit through the day and have up to 2ltrs of water a day and always do some sort of exercise even if it's just a walk.

Any help will be greatly appreciated

My doctor told me to go get some Colace (Docusate Sodium) and take it as needed. It certainly helped and took effect within about 12 hours. It was available at Walgreens and pretty much any pharmacy here, I'm sure you can find something similar in the UK
 
I had the same issues around 12-15 weeks. It was so bad my back and butt hurt because it took so long.
I drank mirolax and one of those Fiber drinks like it was my job. I also ate more apples and shredded wheat until things got more regular. Good luck! :)
 
I had such bad constipation that I would only go to the bathroom if I did an enema!!!! a week ago I started taking Meralax ( i did that in all pregnancies) and with in 3 days I was going everyday very easily..not sure about the UK but its sold everywhere over the counter here.
 
Hi hun benefibre is a god send, can get it in all supermarkets. If I don't go the same day with it it will be the day after. Couldn't live without it in first tri xx

Prune juice or coffee is what has really worked for me. Hope you find relief soon!
 
I wish I liked coffee. I've got some prune juice to try today and if nothing I'll try the benefiber.

If all else fails I'm at the midwife next week so I'll talk to her. I feel slightly better today with not eating bread so I think I'll cut that out for now as well

I eat my fruit at night before bed. This helped me when I was pregnant and now when I am taking iron tablets.
 
I was desperate bad with constipation,
tried prune juice, fibogel drink, more greens, cut out red meat, ugh, nothing helped.

finally went to doctor about it, he actually felt my bowels through my tummy and said i was compacted? impacted? not sure which it is! gave me movicol and told me to keep increasing the dose until i went. and after 4 doses on the 4th day I finally went.

fully recommend going to doc and ask for movicol. i've even kept some aside for future use lol.
