Hi everyone im bottle feeding sam and he never wakes for feeds, he only takes a bottle when i wake him up every 4ish hours and then he still isnt that interested - he's only taking about 10-15mls when the mw said he should take 30ml. Some times he takes it in his mouth and spits it all out, so i thought maybe the flow is too fast but i changed it this afternoon to a slower one and he's not spitting it out but still not taking much. Other times he just holds the teat in his mouth and doesnt take much at all.

Im feeding him on Cow & Gate ready made milk cos i dont know whether its the teats or if he's just not hungry. I cant ring local mw as she's gone for the day and the ones at the main hospital are really not very nice but i feel like im not feeding him properly.
My mw is coming out tomorrow but its just bothering me now and have no one to ask. - I know he's only 2 days old but i just want to do best thing for him.

Thanks

Congratulations on your new son! I think for a 2 day old that's ok, on day 3 my LO Ruby was sleeping mostly, and I was putting her to the breast only for her to bob off after 2 seconds. I'm sure she was getting even less than your LO. Remember, his tummy is tiny, about the size of a marble. Just keep waking him regularly, maybe every 3 hours rather than every 4? To me 4 hours seems too long for a newborn.

I wouldnt worry too much, to be honest they are designed for food to not be a major thing at that age.
I breastfed for first 3 days but then she was on 3oz every 4 hours - and by god it took an hour I swear to get some of those bottles down her!!!

Personaly I think 4 hours is just right, otherwise they arent getting enough nap sleep in when you consider an hour for a bottle LOL!

But, no, I shouldnt worry too much - as my midwife said she's yet to see a baby delibirtly starve itself!

Thank you, i was just panicing as the mw at hospital kept on and on about him needing to take 30ml. He seems to have sorted himself now waking between 2.5-4 hours for feeding and he's taking 3oz now :)

Good I am glad he is sorted! Freya drank pratically nothing for her first week, so not to worry! :)

Glad he's waking for you now hun.

When Violet was that young she'd go 5-6hrs between feeds and midwife wasn't worried x (But she was happier when it eventually got to 4hrs lol)
