Helping milk to come in faster

Avoid fluid IVs as that can slow milk coming in.

You don't have an option in the US on this. At least not in my hospital. I have to be induced at 39 for a blood clotting issue and will have to have an iv

in your case, obviously you'll need the IV to accomplish what you need it for (though still your choice, legally), but despite what we (american women) are led to believe, it is under the Patient Bill of Rights Law that everyone (including pregnant women) can choose to decline/accept ANY intervention. That doesn't mean the hospital is always happy about it, but legally they cant do anything without your consent and they certainly cannot legally force you to do something you dont want, that includes IVs.

I recognize, though, that some US providers/hospitals will use high pressure tactics to make it seem differently. (Ive witnessed it done to other women and ive been put through it myself.) But at the end of the day, it's your choice and you have the law to back that up.

I wanted to point this out because im sure more American women will be reading this thread and as a doula i am highly aware that most ladies don't think they have any legal rights regarding medical interventions during labor simply bc they are pregnant, but this is not true. The law is on the side of the pregnant woman. It would be illegal for ANY hospital or practioner to enforce ANY intervention that a women doesn't want to consent to-pregnant or not.

Thank you! I hate that women feel they do not have a choice, you have a choice to decline everything in the hospital.

Yup, you can do so much more than they make it out to be. I ate my own food and drank my own fluids throughout labor. I needed IV fluids though in order to get antibiotics.

My milk didn't come in until day 5, but we only had a slight tinge (looked more like a suntan) but my LO nursed constantly and also didn't lose any weight. I was shattered though! :flower:
