Does anyone know some herbal teas that are safe for ttc and if you get pregnant?
I picked up a mix with dandelion, burdock and hawthorne leaves from the brand Heath and Heather and am wondering if those are safe:shrug:

Throw out any herbal teas that you know are ok pls:flower:

Burdock root is NOT considered safe during pregnancy. I would avoid it. Same with Hawthorne, it is not considered safe for pregnancy or breastfeeding. PLEASE avoid this blend if you are pregnant!

I know a lot about herbs from research and personal interest - I mix my own teas and buy my own herbs for teas. Also stay away from Castor, Mandrake, Mimosa, and Mugwort. I can give you a full list of herbs to avoid during pregnancy if you'd like, I just need to check my book of herbs and their uses.

Yes, please if you can post a list, that would be great:flower:

Thanks, for the information about the tea I bought. I picked it up today looking for something caffine free to sip on in my tww.

Also any recommendations that are safe while tcc or pregnant would be happliy accepted:)

Sure! It'll take me a day or so to go through my herb book and get ALL the ones that aren't safe during pregnancy, but here's a short list.

Saw Palmetto - when used orally, has hormonal activity
Goldenseal - when used orally, may cross the placenta
Dong Quai - when used orally, due to uterine stimulant and relaxant
effects
Ephedra - when used orally
Yohimbe - when used orally
Pay D’ Arco - when used orally in large doses; contraindicated
Passion Flower - when used orally
Black Cohosh - when used orally in pregnant women who are not at term
Blue Cohosh - when used orally; uterine stimulant and can induce labor
Roman Chamomile - when used orally in medicinal amounts
Pennyroyal - when used orally or topically

Also UNSAFE:
Ergot
Mugwort
Nutmeg
Papaya
Parsley
Pomegranite
Rosemary
Saffron
Sage
Savin (used as abortifacent in middle ages)
Tansy (used to induce abortion in middle ages)
Wormwood
Vervain
Yarrow

The following are SAFE FOR PREGNANCY, but PLEASE TALK TO YOUR HEALTHCARE PROVIDER BEFORE USING THESE, THIS BOOK IS NOT FAIL-SAFE AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY MISCARRIAGES! It would break my heart. So please clear these with your doctor first!

  • Apricot (NOT the seeds!),
  • Lemon Balm,
  • Basil (as long as not given to infants-toddlers in large amounts),
  • Orange Bergamot (stay away from Wild Bergamot),

  • Cherry (not seeds or leaf, just the fruit),
  • Chicory,

  • Clover (stay away from Red Clover),
  • Cucumber (this is a nice drink as well - leave cucumber slices in a jug of water in the fridge for about 12 hours, and drink, it's very good!),
  • Dandelion,
  • Dill,
  • Echinacea
  • Edelweiss
  • Eucalyptus (do not use in faces of small children)

  • Orange
  • Date Palm
  • Pansy
  • Peach (only the fruit, not seeds, leaf or bark)
  • Pear (avoid seeds in large quantities, they're poisonous much like apple seeds)
  • *Peppermint (this is used to induce menstruation, so I'm not sure if it's safe, the book says it is, but use with CAUTION)
  • Persimmon
  • Pineapple
  • Plum (only Prunus Domesticus)
    [*]Poppy (not in large quantities)

Thanks much!:hugs:

There are some on the list I never considered.... I was thinking of herbal drinks but not other types of herbs. I use rosemary and parsley a lot in cooking, will stop those in the Tww - thanks!

I see ginger in the powdered form is bad. I have an herbal tea that contains ginger and tumeric, it is really yummy but will err on the side of caution and stop it. It is more of a winter drink any way - very warming.

I will try to find plain dandelion and spearmint teas:flower: and put away today's purchase till no longer ttc.

I think you have also inspired me to get a good herb book. I am from the Us but living overseas, I will order one for when I am home in the summer. I think it will be fun to learn about all the medicinal properties:book:

Glad to be of help! Mine is called Cunningham's Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs by Scott Cunningham. It lists folklore and traditional "magical" properties of herbs, as well as the latin names, and also listing health stuff such as Oleander is poisonous, as is Foxglove, Morning Glory, and others. I like it!

I don't think herbs are "magic", I just think reading about the historical "magical" properties of herbs is really interesting in an academic sort of way.

You might be more interested in the cooking properties though. Just thought I'd recommend the book I had in case you were interested though!

Thanks:flower:
Your book would be interesting, because I think folklore is based on what worked and did not work.
I am only just learning about plants and their benefits. I grew up in an iceberg lettuce and super market tomato family, with very little variety in fruits and veggies. Minimal herbs - only dry never fresh.
I recently read the Zita West book on fertility and was surprised to learn that fresh herbs had a use beyond flavor:blush: So I have a lot to learn!
I will see if I can find the book on amazon when I will be nearing my trip home.

Here's a link to that book! Pretty cheap - $11.53. You can get it cheaper if you search for new & used copies, too!

Red Raspberry Leaf Tea from AF to OV is supposed to help fertility. But you have to stop it once OV and once you become PG. You can start drinking it sometime around Week 32 or something to help with labor.

I have been drinking RRL tea AF to OV and think it has helped my endometriosis.
