Ive heard relaxin is a hormone or something that loosens your joints in pregnancy, and when does it happen because I'm only 12 weeks and my hips are cracking all the time:dohh:

It's the hormome that relaxes all your joints and ligamnets to help you grow with bubs. It can over owrk, and you end up with joint problams. I suffer really badly with SPD in my pregnancies, which is where the joints of the pelvis seperate. It's really really painful. You normally notice a 'clunking' in your lower back, coxxyx area. Pain around the hips, lower abdomen nd in the groin. Especially when climbing stairs, twisting, nd opening the legs. Mine started at 8 weeks. :hugs:

Ouch, that sounds painful...My hips are also starting to hurt,I think that it's because my baby is finally starting to grow for real...

It's quite common... you can get it mildly too. I was on crutches in my last pregnancy. I have a physio app on Monday afternoon. Hopefully I won't be on crutches for a few weeks yet !!

oh,poor you:hugs:
I never knew that a woman can have it that bad...

Thanks guys I didnt think it would happen so soon Ive got to go and see me osto anyway so I'll see if he can help:hugs:

I ended up on crutches as well. Not fun.

Along with the hip pain and clicking, you feel constantly like you've been kicked in the groin by a horse!:hissy:

There are excersices that a physio can recommend though, and wearing a support belt also helps a bit.

Good luck hun.:hugs:

i think my sister had this - she had to wear a girdle that resembled a weight lifting belt....

Relaxin is produced by the corpeus luteum at EVERY ovulation (with progesterone). When implantation does not occur, relaxin and progesterone production reduces with menstruation.

If implantation occurs, relaxin production is maintained throughout pregnancy with progesterone.

That's the one. It does really help in later pregnancy, it completely takes the weight of you bump off your pelvis, but it get's uncomfortable after wearing it for the whole day everyday. Not looking forward to having to wear it again.
After my last birth, I couldn't get out of the bed in the hospital. They'd gone against the rules, and put me in stirrups, splitting the pelvis. Mind you, they had no choice. My waters had gone 3 days before, and I started to get fever, and Ethans heartrate dropped, so they had to ventouse him out

I had a 3 month post natal physio course after, and was told that if I was going to have another baby, I needed physio a few months before falling. Ooops..... this one wasn't exactly planned :)
