Hi,
sorry to pop into this section i'm not sure whether i should be here now or if its a bit early, we are on cycle 13 now of ttc after conceiving our 2 boys first month of ttc. I went to doc today because i have bad periods, its really heavy and very painful so i went to see if there was anything that can be done, she has given me some tablets to try. Anyway i mentioned we have been ttc for just over a year and she asked about mine and hubby's health i told her hubby has been ill for almost 2 years with various probs, she said illness and medication can effect his sperm and has recommended a sperm analysis. My question to you ladies is do we pay for this doing or is it done on the NHS? does us having children already make a difference to this? does he take a sample in to our GP's surgery? or does he go somewhere to do it? sorry that turned into 4 questions this is something i know absolutly nothing about. Thank-you in advance for any advice given x

Hey hun, hope you're ok.

I might be wrong but I would have thought that a sperm analysis should have nothing to do with you already having children. I think it is only IVF treatment which you can't get, but I might be wrong. GP organised my dh's but he had to go to the hopsital to drop it off. It has to be there within a certain amount of time or the sample deteriorates.

In our experience, GP's are crap at reading the results though. He told us everything was fine, which it was if you just look at sperm count, but motlity and morphology were bad which makes a good count irrelevant!! It might be worth seeing if you can get one done privately, the specialists give you a much more detailed result.

Lots of luck hun xx

Thank you Mrs G, i knew we wouldn't get funding for ivf but i wasn't sure about tests etc, i'll look into private though for the sperm analysis thank you x

dh's was ordered through the gp, he had to have it at hospital within an hour. then my fertility doctor checked the results and explained them, though tbh as long as they give you numbers, alot of the girls here are really knowledgeable. you wont have to pay for it.

Thank you Sparkle83, i hadn't thought of asking for advice on his results i will now though cause to be honest we won't have a clue. Good luck i hope you get a sticky bean soon x
