Just wondered if anyone knows if it is common to have GD but no glucose in urine and keeping sugar levels under control?

I went in for another growth scan today and my fluid levels have gone from 21cm to 27cm in 2 weeks. Hospital are hoping its the GD but wouldn't there be glucose in urine and wouldnt there be problems with controlling the sugar levels?

I have already been diagnosed with GD but have it well controlled so really dont know what could cause this,

I have been put on metphormin and got to go back next week. If the fluid levels have gone up or they do not see any improvement then they will talk about testing baby once she is born with some kind of tube down her throat to check her stomach as could be something wrong.

I really dont know what is happening and would appreciate anyone's own experiences with anything similar,

Thanks everyone.

I guess it makes sense... If you're carefully managing your diet then your bloods should look normal?

Hope someone can help with this :hugs:

even with good sugar controll I expect more water than normal, I always had loads and I have had GD insulin dependent for my 3rd time this time round.

FX its the same for you

Hi, I have diet controlled GD, blood sugars are under control and i've never had glucose in urine. Not sure about fluid levels as have never had a scan to check.

Sorry I can't be more help, hope everything is ok. :hugs: x

Don't worry, this is exactly my situation - controlled GD (diet and night-time insulin), never had glucose in urine and fluid level high at 21. It's a normal side-effect of GD (even with controlled BS levels more sugar is crossing the placenta to baby than a non-GD pregnancy, causing the baby to wee more and thus increase fluid levels). You may be a candidate for early induction but it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your little one. xxx

Thanks so much for your reply. My levels were 21 for my last 2 growth scans and now at 27. Does that sound like it could be caused by the GD?

I am worrying myself silly over something being wrong with her.

It has really helped hearing from you - I havent been able to find anything about it and google is scaring the life out of me!

My obstetrician assured me that larger abdomen measurement and increased fluid are the classic GD signs on growth scans. My levels went from normal to 21 and have stayed there for the last few weeks but it's only a snapshot at the time of your scan (and dependant on the skill of the sonographer too) so yours may stabilise or come down a bit in the coming weeks. The scare stories on google generally relate to a separate condition (poly-something) so I think given you've got GD you can largely ignore them. Did you have normal levels at your 20-week scan? This would indicate even more that it's GD-induced i.e. something caused by your body not the baby's. I know it's worrying, but I'm sure your little one is fine in there. xxx

Thanks again!

They were normal at 20 weeks. I had a MW at 28 weeks and was measuring ahead which is when it all started - scan, GTT, more scans and consultants. Hopefully it is the GD then (never thought I would say that!). Thanks for your advice, I really appreciate it x

No problem hun, defo sounds like the GD given that develops around 28 weeks. I know exactly what you mean, GD really isn't so bad in the grand scheme of other pregnancy complications! xxx
