Anyone else who had high levels of both beta hcg and papp-a? Do you know your numbers and are any of you having a boy? (Or had a boy?)

1.63? My hcg was 337 @ 4+5. I don't know what pappa is. I'm having a boy.

are you wondering if you're having a girl because of this? I heard people " say" that when hcg rises very quickly early on, it indicates you'll have a girl. If you were wondering because of this... I will say that with both my pregnancies, my hcg skyrocketed off the charts. ( as in they got me in for Ultrasound by 6 wks to see if there were twins). No twins for me, but my first was a daughter.. This one we won't know until it comes out in June. My husband thinks its another girl. I started out thinking boy, but now I feel girl. Again, not sure if this rumor of high early hcg= girl... I think maybe that's just the way my body reacts to pregnancy in general.. My hormones shoot up. I don't believe any of the gender predictors... They all are 50/50!

I generellt don't believe in gender predictions. Def not the OWTs but not the placenta theory by dr Ramzi or the various urine-based home tests either. However, the hcg level connection seems to be true for so many moms. My number from when I was 10 weeks along isn't really that high though. But since both hormones were a bit raised, I'm just curious. I've heard they can also be raised by a large placenta, which I seemed to have quite early on.

Ah yeah I thought that you were wondering about having a girl. Is this your first? How far are you now, when will you find out. ( sorry I'm so nosey.. Shame on me!) yeah I think most gender predictors and the skull theory and such are crap. I'm curious as to whether I will have another little girl now! My numbers were even higher at 4,5 weeks than with my daughter. We don't find out gender, we wait until birth, so I have a little ways before I see what this baby is.. Sorry that doesn't help your research in this topic. I'm intrigued that you say it's true for a lot of women..... I would love another girl, but a boy would be nice also... Balance out the drama in the house. For me it's win win with either gender, but now I'm so curious about this. Thanks for the thread I will be looking back to see others posts.

I never had my HCG tested so I cannot add...but my girlfriend had hers through the roof (also thought twins but only 1) and she'll find out on the 25th what she's having...

Gosh that sounds like me.... Will be waiting for an update . I know I will never truly know gender until baby is born, but curious to see if hers is a girl..

Yeah it's my first! I'm so excited and so anxious to find out the gender. Not that it matters, I just had the impression that I was going to have a boy but if there is any truth to this hormone level theory, it implies girl. I'm 16 weeks now and will find out at my u/s in two weeks. In addition to my curiosity, I also enjoy debunking myths about gender predictions So anyone who have/had high hcg and papp-a but is having or had a boy?

Yup there's quite a few studies that show levels to be higher in girls.

The beta HCG is around 14-17% higher in females than males
and the PAPP-A is around 5-8% higher in females than in males

Well I am having a boy and my hcg was like this

9dpo positive
11dpo 22.4 and progesterone was 43.93 not on any prog meds
13dpo 80.5
16dpo 406.07
18dpo 816 (at a different lab)
23dpo (5 wks 2 days) 9988.4 (last time I had made it that far was twins/triplets mmc and it was 15000 at 5 wks 1 day)
25dpo (5wks 4 days) 14460.5 Had an US 2 days later and nurse asked if it was twins but nope just one and heard HB that day too it was 96.15 bpm

My doubling time was pretty quick to it trippled from 11 dpo to 13 then from 13 to 16.

My numbers are:
Free betaHCG MoM - 0.96
PAPP-A - 1.61

From the beta I would indicate boy as its 1.0 or lower and girls are generally 1.2 or higher. They also say if two are higher then girl, two lower then boy but if they are different then your results are inconclusive for gender prediction. I studied this yesterday as my doctor told me I could find out my gender from the NT results and I've been frantically researching since! I read there were the exceptions to the rule, as always, who had the opposite gender so I'm not too confident.

I did find that the size of the nuchal fold is indicative of gender too. 95% of higher numbers with low risk/no abnormalities are boys. So anything from about 2 up to 3mm. Anything from about 1.6 or lower was girl.

Seeing as both of your levels are over I would predict a girl for you. If you can remember or have it on paperwork the size of the nuchal fold you could take a guess that way too.

I find out in four weeks!!! Can't wait for this ridiculous researching theories stage to be over haha.

I didn't have my hcg tested but my clear blue digital went to 3+ early and I'm having a girl if that's any help at all

I don't buy this theory at all. Disclaimer: we are team yellow, so I studied up on all the ways to "guess" gender from bloodwork. There is real science behind it- I think hcg levels are on average 10-14% higher for girls, and PAPP-A levels are 8% higher. AFP results however (at 16weeks) are 10% higher for boys.

While the averages are different, if you look at them 1.12 for girls vs .98 for boys or something similar) the difference is TINY and doesn't make up for huge individual differences.

My PAPP A and HCG say girl, my AFP says boy. One of them will magically be right! But not because it is a reliable way to guess

It looks like they started doing a "study" here but it hasn't been active since the results
Weren't much better than 50%! If you look at the thread tons of results contradict this theory, and that's just anecdotally in a forum, so I wouldn't put much stock in it!

My papp a is 2
beta hcg 3.4 which made my downs syndrom risk higher. have no idea why so high but i was quite ill with a tummy bug and a bit dehydrated prior to blood test.
dont know what i am having but gender guesses all say boy (13wk scan).
