Hip Babies / Hip Dysplasia

hi everyone got the cast off on Fri and came home with no cast but she is still cranky when we move her certain ways also her skin is all red and tonight has came out in hive like rashes, is that normal oh and hates the bath!!!!

Yup, yup, yup. Like Helen said, we had all that as well when E came out of her cast. Her skin seemed to get worse when we put cream or especially soap on her skin. Give it a few days to adjust. And hated the bath until she could sit properly in it again, and it seemed to really hurt to move her legs at all, they were so stiff. If you think youself, if you sit on a leg for an hour or two it hurts to move. She hasn't been able to move properly for months!

What did the docs say about her hip? Has it improved?

yeah its all new to her I suppose but she is doing great. we see them in Feb again after she has been on her feet, to check for DDH as that cast was to form the hip so we just need to wait and see, we see her consultant to check for hemihypertrophy in Dec x

hey, hows everyone getting on??

Claire & Alais how are the girls getting on without the cast/brace now??

hope everyone is doing well :hugs:

p.s congrats Alais!!

hi yeah we are doing ok Ellie is still a bit stiff but she is sitting up by herself now which is lovely, and she can stand holding onto things. We had an appointment to go back in Feb but it has been brought forward as her hip is clicking a bit and they also think she has scoliosis xx

We're doing pretty well. E will stand holding on to things, although she's pretty wobbly sometimes, doesn't quite know where her feet should be. Just this morning I got her to walk a few wobbly steps holding on to me, I was thrilled to see her moving her feet left-right-left-right. She's not pulling up but I don't think it's far behind - yesterday she was pushing on the arms of her highchair (no tray, pushed up to the table) and standing on the foot rest - she was so proud :) She just needs to get her legs under her properly. I've been teaching her things... she had to re-learn how to roll and now it's great fun to play rolling games on the floor. And I am still working on getting her off the sofa safely (on her tummy, feet first) if I remind her she does it, otherwise she tries to 'shuffle' off the sofa, and the other day she tried head first(!)

aw sounds like she is doing so so good, does your physio come out and show you things too, do you get hydrotherapy, Ellie is pulling herself up onto her feet but then she doesnt know where they should go lol xx

Happy new year everyone, I'm sure Santa visited everyone with lots of toys :) How is everyone? Any updates? Claire, I think you had a bunch of checkups, what's the story with Ellie?

We're doing well here, I'm so proud of my munchkin over Christmas. She's been pulling herself up to standing and she's learned to crawl! She doesn't do it often because her bum is so much quicker, but it's great for her, and you can see she's really proud of herself. I'm trying to get her on her knees once a day just for the exercise.

I have my 20 week ultrasound for baby2 next week, and I'm nervous enough about it. If this baby is a girl and breech then I'll be more worried about her hips... but I do sorta want another girl, E is such a joy when she's in good form :) I'd take another just like her, but preferably without the health problems!

Happy new year to you, im sure your scan will go fine so dont stress lol

Yeah Ellie is bum shuffling everywhere and attempting to crawl but its not working lol and she can pull herself up a little bit but gets tired. We were there to check that the hip has stayed formed and nevr calcified and all looks good but we are back in Feb to check for DDH as her orthopedic thought there might be a slight click there she also had an xray for scolisos and unfortunatly she does have it but again back in March to check if it has got any worse before we discuss surgery and bracing xx

Hi all, just popped in to say thanks - a while ago I asked some questions as my lo has a couple of symptoms of hip problems. We saw the paediatrician yesterday and she is fine. Thanks for your advice, I feel much better knowing for sure.

Hi everyone, santa went a bit ott in this house! but emma is doing really well she is begining to crawl, doesnt crawl much but is definately getting there, not helping at the mo that she is cutting her molars :dohh: we have our next app in feb, with the NEW consultant in cork :happydance:so hopefully no more trips to dublin

met a woman that i kind of know a while back, emma was in her brace so we were having a good chat about that, her daughter has already gone through the whole cast/brace thing and now at 3 is having to go back into the cast :cry:i nearly started crying for them myself, life isnt fair sometimes :nope:

Well we (hopefully) have no 3 due in July so think we are going to talk to the consultant about putting bean into a brace from the start - like DD1 was in - and hopefully that might work and we wont be going through all this again :dohh:

hope everyone had a good christmas and new year xx

Welcome, sorry you've got to go through this! Like Claire said, it's not as bad as you think. And surprisingly, it's harder on you than your LO! I hated it, every bit of it, but it's all a memory now and I get a lot of joy and happiness in seeing my DD's legs and how much she's able to do now. If you have any questions at all, we are all here to help :)

Thanks every one. I feel lawful as he's so active, loves walking and dancing. But I know its for the best. Im sure ill be here with loads of questions :)

Well we had or big scan today, and things are looking good. E had 4 out of 5 risk factors for Hip Dysplasia. This baby looks like it's only got one - family history. That's taking a lot of worry out of my head. Nothing else looks unusual. After everything that happened with E, I'm starting to now get my head around the fact that this is all looking pretty positive and normal. I'll still worry, but I'll worry a lot less with the scan behind me.

Hi ladies, i'm glad i found this thread!

My daughter is 20 days old and was diagnosed with bilateral DDH shortly after birth. Her left hip was graded a 3 (with 4 being the worst) and her right hip was graded a "3 nearly a 4". She had her Pavlik harness fitted at 4 days old. I really, REALLY struggled with it at first, as i'm sure many of you can relate to, to the point where i couldn't change her or dress her for a few days because i couldn't bear to look at the harness. OH had to do everything. The thing i miss most is being able to cuddle her close and have skin-to-skin.

Anyway, her consultant and physio team have been fantastic, really reassuring. She had a follow up scan today to see how things are going, and both hips have been downgraded to a 2, which i am SO happy about. The consultant said she is "sure that in 4 weeks time her hips will be "normal"". She sounded really happy with how things are going. Charlotte has been booked in for a rescan in 4 weeks time, and like i said, her consultant expects to see "normal" hips by then. She will be nearly 7 weeks old.

We were initially told to expect the harness on for 12 weeks. With my consultant's positive outlook on my daughters condition, how likely do you ladies think it is that they will remove the harness after just 6 weeks instead of the 12? I am SO hoping they will....but don't want to get my hopes up :nope:

xxx
