Anybody else have hirsutism?

I'd like to find people who i can talk to about this, who actually understands what its like to suffer with this.

I have excess hair growth all over my body, in places that only men 'should' get it. I also have thinning hair on my scalp. I have to pluck my face every day, i feel so self conscious. My confidence is at an all time low. I HATE it. My family (Mum and partner) are the only ones who know anything, and they just tell me Im lovely as i am, which is very hard to believe at times. I cover it up to anyone else (well the best I can) still obvious to me.

Ive had this problem a few years, but only recently discovered hirsutism. All my blood tests are normal, and im currently waiting to go for a scan next week. My last scan was several years ago, and i had a lot of small cysts on my ovaries. I have regular periods. Doctors have never confirmed pco, but have just told me i'm showing signs of pco.

Be nice to talk to people who understand what this is like, or anyone whos had any experience of this.

hi hon
I do have pcos, but apparantly I have the syndrome and not the actual polysystic ovaries, so I have hair that grows all over my face, knuckles , belly, chest etc its awful! I wax mine every few weeks, or use a hair removal cream . but yeh my ovaries are ok cyst wise, just cause of my weight they're not working right now ( i think anyway, all very up in the air right now) sounds like u do have pcos I would get a second opinion from ur doc, there is medication like metformin which im on for insulin resistance which is very common in pcos :flower: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

hello hun, i do not suffer from hirsutism or PCOS but i diddnt want to read and run.

i do know however, what its like to be self concious of something, i have freckles, lots of them!!! and they get really dark in the sun, i HATE them!!!!

i was thinking maybe if you went to the doctors and asked for laser hair removal? do they do it on the NHS... i know it is very expensive privately but it is permanent.

xxxxxxxxxx good luck xxxxxxxxxx

Caity86 - Its nice to have someone who actually understands what this is like. Never opened up to anyone before. I pluck, this causes scarring. Ive not opened my eyes to waxing my face just yet. I have a very sensitive skin, and am frightened it would scar my face, more so then the damage that is being done now. Do you find waxing your face causes scarring or any probs? I would love laser treatment, but just cant afford it.

Ive recently in the past year, lost about 4 stone in weight, and am at a pretty healthy weight right now. I thought more so would fall pregnant easily, well not easily exactly but more so then last year, but nothing :( People assume i'll feel more confident losing all that weight, which i do dont get me wrong, but I feel my hair growth is getting more obvious, so I keep my head down and my self esteem feels very low at times. I'm even growing a few hairs on my back more and more, my partner has to pluck them out for me. I HATE this. Theres not enough out there and treatments for this, which there definitely should be.

Thats my concern, because all my tests are 'normal', why would I have this hirsutism unless its a problem with my ovaries :( which i really hope not. My scan is next week, so hopefully might no more then.

Good luck to you xxx

rachel_f_ Thank you for your concern, its horrible how we all cant just be happy with who we are. Its the person underneath that counts, but we all like to feel good on the outside dont we, to make us feel happy inside.

I dont think you can get laser treatment on the nhs to be honest. I will ask, but i doubt it unfortunately :'(

I would definitely 110% have laser treatment if i could afford it. I'm waiting to win the lottery, and its the first thing i would do before anything else. xxx
