Do you still want a tour of the delivery ward incase of a transfer?

I do but i dont want this to be negative thing. I cope better with things if ive seen them before.

I am hoping that seeing it will help relax me more about having homebirth.

Anyone else feel like this or am i on my own? x

I'm hoping for a homebirth but I've already delivered at my hospitals labour ward and midwife led unit so I don't need too. If you would feel more comfortable doing it then I say do it. It's not a negative I don't think xx

This will be my third hospital, gave birth in 2 different ones in different counties before.

Sadly, not had best treatment from this third one either. Just hoping seeing incase will help me cope better. x

I reallllly wish I could do a home birth!!! I jumped the gun and went right to insurance but it won't cover if we choose that. :-/ and I just can't pay out of pocket. Plus I'm in PA (USA) which is one of the few states that if maternity is covered at all home birth is denied.

I'm not too sad over it because this time around I did switch to a birthing center with an attached maternity ward. Only midwives deliver and they have a bath Ect. I know I'll need antibiotics and oxygen (asthma) so it's safer.

But I commend you!! This is something I really wanted! I would tour anyway. You never know what can happen!

I'm doing a Homebirth as well. I'm choosing not to tour the hospital. I know birth plans change but to me, failure is not an option. Unless anything life threatening comes up, I will be at home. If problems arose, I don't care where I give birth, as long as everyone is safe. But I'm young, healthy and having a textbook pregnancy. If I had other factors, I might take a tour.

I am aiming for a homebirth this time, doc said we can make final decision at my growth scan at 34 weeks, if baby is below 95th centile then I can have it. If not tho I am not fussy about a tour. I just want to have baby then leave asap xx

Do you have bad asthma?
As i have asthma too. x

Thanks for the replies, think part of issue is i just hate hospitals so going into unknown area is unsettling for me. x

Hospitals can be rubbish especially if you've had a hard time. I always think it's best to do what your comfortable with.

I'm hoping to have a homebirth but if not I hope I can go midwife led.

Xx

I think it's a good idea in case there's a medical reason why you can't go ahead with a home birth or you go over and need to be induced. It's especially good for birthing partners to work out what's what. Being aware doesn't mean that you won't stay firm on wanting a home birth, and not having one doesn't mean you've failed either. Way too many women are hung up on achieving the 'perfect' birth experience. The perfect one ends up with a lovely, healthy baby coming home with you. How you get it is completely irrelevant.

I've planned two homebirths. My youngest was born at at home. I never toured a hospital, or even considered it.

I'm a birth center hopeful this time. I don't plan on touring the hospital I would be going to.
