Hi ladies

I am a bit of a lurker in here - I hope you don't mind that I pop in now and again to see how you are all getting on. I've never posted in here before as I know I don't really belong - but I have a best friend who has been trying for four years to have a baby, and who has undergone IVF, so I often pop in so I can pass on your successes and tips to keep her feeling positive.

Because of this, I feel I should now share some of the story with you - because there is a happy ending to it. I'm sure she wouldn't mind, having been in a similar situation to many of you here.

Four years ago my friend - I'll call her X from now on - discovered she was pregnant. She thought she was about 8 weeks, but due to POS was unsure of dates etc. Her scan showed the baby had stopped developing at 5+ weeks  and she had to undergo a d&c. She then fell pregnant again, but this time it appeared to be more like a chemical pregnancy.
A couple of hard years passed with nothing happening...and so X was referred for fertility tests. Everything came back normal with both of them, but given the timescale and her POS, they were offered IVF.
They went through it - and it was a real eye opener for me. I didn't realise what went into it, both mentally and physically, and so I really admire all you ladies for your strength.
Everything went perfectly. Her scans and bloods were fine all the way through and they collected about 10 eggs, of which 8 fertilised. By day 3 all was looking good, so they went for a day 5 transfer. By this time they had at least one blastocyst (I think they had two and some other grades for freezing- I'm sketchy on these details I'm sorry), and this was put back in and the 2ww commenced. X was 30/31 and so with everything going so well I was certain they would be first time lucky.
Despite everything running like clockwork - sadly the 2ww ended in a BFN.
They waited a bit - and then underwent a frozen transfer. This also ended in a BFN.
They were lined up for their second fresh cycle - and X started downregging. Only this time, for some reason, she didn't downreg as she had before. She had more and more cysts appearing at each scan, and had extra injections, a break, and then more injections, but it just didn't seem to work. Her womb lining wasn't thinning as it should, and this went on for months. Eventually it was decided to drain the biggest cyst, and to start again.
It didn't go as smoothly as the first time - but this time it did start to work and she was soon ready for egg collection. They got more eggs this time round (I can't remember the exact figure, but I think it was 18) and they were told the next day that a good number had fertilised. The procedure at the hospital they were at meant that for 2nd timers they went for 3-day transfer, and transfered two embryos.
This is what happened - and she was also told they had five frozen embies too.

One day before her OTD (You can tell I'm a lurker - I know some of the lingo) X got a BFP. They don't routinely do betas here - and so it wasn't until 7 weeks (so 3 weeks after her BFP) that they had a scan and saw a little bean with a flickering heartbeat.
X has since had her 12 week scan, showing a beautiful bouncing little bean.
There is still some time to go, but X has crossed the major hurdles. I am so proud of her, and wanted to tell you all her story in the hope that it inspires you on your own journeys.

I hope you don't mind me sharing this with you.

I think you are all wonderfully brave and strong, and I hope with all my heart that your stories all have an ending as happy as this.
