Hormones and miscarriage?

This may be a stupid question, but I was wondering what happened if you had a miscarriage and were still taking hormones. The clinic told me that I wouldn't get my period if I was taking estrogen and progesterone supplements, even if I didn't get pregnant--the period would start whenever I stopped the supplements.

Now I got my BFP and am just wondering if I could even tell when a miscarriage happened. I'm 38 so my risk is high. Would I start bleeding from the miscarriage? I'm still taking estrogen + progesterone (they make you do it until 9 weeks at my clinic) and am wondering if I'd have any clue that the baby wasn't doing well. Kind of scares me!

I would recommend asking your doctors and midwives for weekly reassurance scans. I had two missed miscarriages where my body 'held on' to the miscarriage and I never bled, even though I was not taking any hormones so this can happen either way I suppose.
