Hi all
The past few weeks have been bad as Alex's molars are coming in (gums at the back are rock hard and I can feel/see the teeth cutting through a little), but the past few nights have been absolutely awful. I'm just wondering if this is typical for molars coming in, or if it could be to do with his MMR jab (he had on Thursday)?
He is absolutely fine during the day, all happy and smiley, and he's settling down to bed for the night ok too. But come about 9pm, all hell breaks loose and he is screaming in pain. It's been like this for 3 nights in a row now. For the past three nights he's also been sick in his cot, which he's never done before, and we think it's because he is clawing away at the back of his mouth (he has a sensitive gag reflex so this makes sense). When we go into his room when he starts crying, he has both hands right in his mouth, and there is sick everywhere! He doesn't have a high temp or rash or anything like that, so I don't think it's a virus. I've been giving him calpol early in the evening and then a little baby ibruprofen several hours later as the calpol doesn't seem to get rid of the pain - the other night he didn't finally settle until 3am (after being first put down for the night at 8pm)! We're trying everything to comfort him when he's like this - dummy, cool teethers, milk, singing, back rubs, his favourite monkey teddy etc. He just wants to be held and go to sleep cuddling me after screaming for ages and getting all worked up
Does this sound typical of molars coming in, or could it be something else? He's been fine with all his previous jags, has no marks or lumps on his legs at the injection sites or anything like that either.
I am praying he doesn't have another horrible night tonight. It's heartbreaking to see him in so much pain. Is there anything else I could do to help him? Plus from a selfish point of view, I'm existing on hardly any sleep at the moment which is not good since I started back at work this week. Alex has never slept through, so we're used to getting up several times through the night to settle him back down, but this week has really taken the biscuit!
