Hiya does anyone know if i will definately be able to get housing benefit?I have been told i should be able to, i am single my lo is 6 months old and i dont work.I have found a place i want us to move into, we're living with my parents at the moment.I have to sign a 6 month contract with my new landlord but im worried that when i send off my forms they might say i cant have it!Theres no way i could afford the rent on my own.Does anyone know how i could find out if i can definately get it?I have been told by the jobcentre that i 'should' be able to get it!Thanks in advance x

im not sure where you could find out before you actually apply for it, but could you not speak to your landlord about it. just tell him the situation your in. its pretty much 99% i would of thought that you could get HB

They should be able it does depend on the size of your property how much they will pay, but that is for my council i dont know about yours, does you council have like benefit calculator on there webiste, as mine does and it gives you a rough guide how much they will pay? xxx

Yes hun yes you will get help, they go off the benefit you are on. What you might not be told is the exact amount although when a child is involved its usually all the rent unless they feel the house is not worth the asking price .x

Is it a private house? Just call the HB office and ask what the max is they would pay in hb. my local office tells u this info online too

i think there is a benefits website called entiltledto.co.uk that will let you know what you qualify for.

Thankyou all for your help.I have been told i can have up to 595 'if' my claim goes through ok, everyone just keeps saying 'should' and 'probably'!! I have now signed my tenancy agreement and luckily they asked me to get a letter from the council to say i should get it and if not at least they know i can only have the flat if i can get housing benefit. Its just such a worry signing a contract without knowing for certain that i will get it paid for!Thanku again x x
