We've been told we are having a boy and we are over the moon.
But someone's just told dh that they were told boy and a girl came out!!
Now I'm doubting having a boy (it's hard to believe after 2 girls!!)
I'm contemplating another private gender scan to confirm this!!
I can't wait to buy baby boy things!!
Does anyone know how accurate they are??

When I was expecting my 1st (5 years ago) I was given an information leaflet about the anatomy scan and it said that there is a 5% error rate. However it is very uncommon to be incorrectly told boy, the mistake is usually being told girl and it actually being a girl.

Never heard of a boy being incorrectly gendered, more typical with girls. That said even if the technician is 100% sure (as we were told with an ultra clear potty shot) technically they still have to say that there is no guarantee. I literally have that written on my scan notes.

I've heard of both happening, but it's pretty rare (more common to be told the wrong gender at an earlier scan, when the parts are still finishing their development). But technology can always be wrong, and humans are known to make mistakes, so anything is possible.

On another website that I won't name since I don't know if it's allowed, there's a post a woman just made either yesterday or today where the first two scan pictures show girly parts (absolutely nothing sticking out) and then the third picture shows an obvious penis. All from shifting just a tad bit in the potty shot angle.

If you can afford it, maybe do a private scan to put your mind at ease? :flower:

Ive since contacted the woman and she's told me it was at the 11 week scan she was told probably boy and at the 20 week scan they said more likely girl!
This somehow translated to her husband as they were 100% sure it was a boy!
Feel so much better now!!

Yea I've heard that it's more common to be told girl and the boy bits can be hidden somewhere!!
Kinda not going to believe that I'm having a boy till I see him with my own eyes!!

Its more common for a girl to come out boy. Do you have a scan pic of the gender, boys are really obvious lol
Any scan done before 16 weeks can give an incorrect gender as babies are not fully developed in that area till then.

I'm glad I'm not the only one freaked out, lol! There's a thread from 2010 on there where most people thought it was a boy at 18 weeks, but it was actually a girl! I don't know what to believe anymore, haha

We were told he was 99% sure it was a boy at 21 weeks so I'd imagine they are very accurate by then, and I'm sure if the doctor/sonographer was unsure they would tell you so.

Now I'm scared!! We just did a 16 week gender scan and were told girl.. and we are over the moon. We both wanted a girl and this will be our only baby. I saw the three lines on the scan, and an absence of boy parts... she better not grow a penis!

I was so sure my second was a boy that I didn't believe my gender scan at 16 weeks that said girl and had another one...it was a girl and she came out a girl

The place I go for mine has only got 1 wrong out of 36000!!!
