How can i build my credit up

I got into a lot of debt when i was 18 with a ex and we split up and they left me with all the debt. In end i had to go bankrupt cus i just couldnt afford the payments. Now my question is i am more responsible now. We have 2 catalogue and on phone contracts but its all in his name. Ive never missed a payments on them but now i want to sort my own credit out so i dont have to keep depending on OH. Does anyone have any ideas how i can build my credit score up/

Firstly you have to get all your credit files and check they are all written as 'satisfied'. If not you have to write to all the companies and make sure it's written on there. You may have to get you files a few times. Then wait a few years and get a stupid, ridiculous credit building credit card such as aqua or vanquis. Use it once a month and pay in full. Keep doing this for a year or so and then try a phone contract etc. and start building it again. Make sure you never default ever or it will be worse. After 6 years from your bankruptcy date it drops off your credit file and you should be in a better position. There's a great website called debt questions forum with great advice!

A friend of mines got a credit card and is very strict with herself that she only ever uses it to buy her petrol on. So she buys her petrol on it, and pays it immediately back the next month. Just proving really that you are able to keep up payments and without being tied down to phone contract etc xx

I have a credit card that I use to just pay for 1 thing knowing I have the money in my bank for it, and at the end of the month I pay it off right away. So I can still build credit up

Yea thats something i want like a credit card and only buy 1 thing at a time and pay it off in full
