I have a microwave sterliser, but my sister said that if I sterlise more than one bottle, once I open it to get one of the bottles out, the rest are no longer sterile? She said the only way to do more than one at a time is to use Milton Sterlising Liquid, which I have purchased. Now I have two questions.

1. Is it true that once I have opened the sterliser, I can't use the other bottles? If so...why can you sterlise more than one at a time?

and
2. Where do I get the bucket/container with the lids that i can use sterlising liquid in?

Either way I would love the option of just dropping them in and leaving them. I mostly breastfeed anyway, and only use bottles when we're out and about, so I don't need many, but I qwon't bother to sterlise more than one at a time if they are left unsable.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you dont use many i would just do one at a time as you need them tbh

saying that i will lift the lid and take out a bottle and still use the others, yes they are no longer sterile but very very clean and perfectly ok to use

If you use Milton then with my steriliser it was a case of filling our tommee tippee steriliser with 5L of water and then 1.5 capfuls of milton. Then submerge everything so there are no air bubbles and then use the plasticy thing for resting the bottles on as a weight to keep everything under and then just seal the lid. After 30mins they're sterile and you can just take them out as you need them.

Alternatively, what I do if I have spare sterile bottles is to take all 4 out after steam sterilising, put the teats and lids on and then put them in the back of the fridge as you would if storing made up milk and follow the same rules for that, so they're okay for 24hours xx

1. It is true that other bottles are not sterile but as suzieb I use the other bottles after opening the lid (I just decided that air that I breathe and she breaths is safe for her so I will not stress about it):winkwink:. Most of us actually prep more than one feed at the time that's why its handy to sterilise more than one bottle.
2 I use glass bowl and dilute half the cup in 2.5l cold water. I was also told in other thread that it is safe to keep taking and putting back to same water (very handy) as long as you change the after 24 hrs you should be fine. (I used Milton for short while when my steam steriliser packed up. The idea with TT steriliser is really good.

Hope this helps hun :hugs::hugs:

The only way I have ever done it (told by MW) is to sterilise a batch at a time. On paper it seems like only a minor inconvenience, but in reality, sterilising one bottle at a time and waiting for the water to cool is a nightmare, especially if it is the middle of the night, and/or LO is screaming!

I also fill them all with boiled water immediately, so that they are there when I need them (don't keep for more than 24 hours though) - some say you shouldn't store water like this, but it's what I was advised to do, and it had never been a problem.

Since Beth was born we have been steralizing 4 bottles at a time and then using them all. We make up the bottles the night before for the next day and then just store them in the fridge.

I really wouldn't steralize one at a time. Thing with this - are you going to steralise one before every feed? Because they would get un-sterlized if they were just sitting around waiting to be used anyway.

It is very confusing! xx

Like the others say - take one out and pop the lid back on. It's a bit overkill in my opinion. I understand we have to be as careful as possible but you have to be able to get things done. I've been doing at least two bottles in our steriliser from birth (freaked me out at first but she's a lively healthy five month old now and she's been just fine. I now do four bottles at a time in it and it's totally fine. I try not to touch the other bottles parts when removing the bits for each one but frankly my hands are sooo clean (and dried up and wrinkly now!) that it wouldn't do any harm anyway I wouldn't have thought.

I do make up each feed as I go along though. Doesn't take long to cool it down - I have a jug that I put cold water in and just stand the bottle in that for 5 or 10 mins.

:)

i sterilise 4 bottles at a time and make the feed up right away and then put in fridge its not really practical to sterilise one bottle at a time tbh i couldnt do it

Yeah i have been making them up as I go along. I mostly breastfeed but her colic has gotten so abd now they want me to put drops in her milk, so I've gotten some vented anti colic bottles and wanted to make sure I could sterlise more than one!

I unfortunately can't use my tommee tippee sterliser to cold water sterlise as the microwave ones aren't completely round, they go down at the sides, so I can't put much water in them. I've found sterlising tubs for about £10 though so will grab one of those.

Thank you so much for all your advice!! x

i just open the steraliser and then put the teats onto the bottle with the cap over them then the bit that goes in the babys mouth is more or less totally steralised xx

I also sterilise a batch and then put all of the bottles (parts) together with the lids on air tight. Not had any problems so far
