Hi

With so many out there, how do you decide which one to go for! I mean you don't know how your LO will be on it until you use it - then if it doesn't suit you have to keep chopping and changing brands! which is expensive and not good for lil tum!

We started my son on Aptimel 1 when he was 10 days old (having been BF up to then) he was fine until he developed colic like symptoms at 8 weeks. Health visitor at clinic suggested 'comfort' milk - which was great for reducing his symptoms but boy did his nappies wiff! he stayed on that until he was weaned and eventually went on to cows milk at 1!

I'm 20 weeks now and am already starting to think about formula! can I presume colic runs in the family and she will be effected too? I had it and my DH had it as a baby!:dohh:

Hi, we didn't really have much choice....

I was bf'ing but it wasn't filling her up, so my DP went to the corner shop and the only feed they had was SMA gold, which was what they'd offered us at the hospital too so he bought that and we've stuck with it as have had no problems with it.

I guess it's just a case of trial and error?!?

x

my mum used sma with me and alot of my friends used it so i guessed it must be good. used it for both mine with no probs. PLUS when they got moved to soya it was the sma 1 i got on prescription.

the only time i had probs was when i bought aptimil on holiday as they didnt have sma and my youngest ended up very constipated, so i wont reccommend the make.

We picked Cow and Gate because it's widely available. You don't want to be travelling miles to find a stockist of some obscure formula! We didn't put too much thought into it tbh because we only bought one carton as a last resort option because I thought I'd be BFing. (Ruby totally refused the breast). Anyway the Cow and Gate is fine for us...

I picked SMA because my sister used it and said she thought it was the best one, i debating on whether to change it or not because it doesn't seem to be working well with my LO's stomach.

When I was in hospital they asked me which formula I wanted to try Joseph on, as I had planned to bf I hadn't really thought about so I just said any! They gave me Aptamil and he has been on it ever since x

We were given aptamil in hospital and just carried on with it :)

i am very happy with aptamil, Jake is 3half months and was bf up until this week, we introduced his last feed as a formula feed two weeks ago and he has been fine with it, i was told by my friend who works in a hospitol with prem babies that from their experiences aptamil is the best because all the others especially sma( which alot of people go for and i would of done as its been around for years and is well advertised) seem to be heavy on the babies tummies. Jake has had no problems with aptamil, if anything he has less wind problems, he suffered with trapped 'trumpy' wind when being breastfed! Hope this helps but again its just someones opinion and every baby is different, so go with your instinct at the time.

we went with sma gold 1 as thats what he got in hospital and was ok with it

We got a free sample of Nesle Good Start, and we just stuck with it!

we went with cow and gate as it was the cheapest! formula costs alot as it is so we started with the cheapest one and if that didnt work then wed switch. luckily hes been fine with cow and gate :D

I was fed on SMA as a baby, so was my hubby. We're going to start out on SMA as we feel we trust it.
