......can you add the formula to a bottle with cooled boiled water? Or do you have to do it with the hot water thing just before a feed.

With the normal aptamil i make bottles ready witht he water for the next 24 hrs ....and then add formula just before a feed. Wondering if someone does the same with comfort and it still works??

xx

I'm not sure as I use hungry milk but I'd of thought it would be the same x

You can do it that way, but I found that the comfort formula mixed better with hot water. When my LO was on that, I made the bottles up with freshly boiled water, fast cooled them and put them in the fridge (to be used within 24 hours). With normal formula I did it the same way you did. But I found that with both the Aptimil and C&G comfort formulas, something in them seemed to mix better if the water was hot.

Comfort does mix a lot better with hotter water. It tends to clump together otherwise.

What I do is put 4ozs of cooled boiled water in the bottles for the day. Then add 2 ozs of hot boiling water to make the feed up to 6ozs. Then add the milk and it's just hot enough to mix the milk and water and is warm enough for Jake to have :)

I make up LO feeds with hot water, as it does mix better this way. I also remember seeing a post where the poster had contacted C and G and they were told to always mix comfort milk with just boiled water.:flower:

i make 3 bottles up in the mornings (max has 3 a day) with hot water and the milk, ive found that it mixes a lot better,

in the day when im home i will make each feed fresh with boiled water but the night time feeds and the feeds while im out and about-i just add the formula to the room temp water. it seems to mix fine?x

It seems to mix ok with the cool boiled water i did yetserday.....it does look crystalised but it is mixed ok if you shake it really well  When i tried with the warmer water it didnt look any better really. :dohh:

Thanks for your replies.

xx

well i use the dr brown bottles which you cant shake so i just swirl it around quite hard and mine is still fine so i guess shaking it would be even better..LO seems fine on it so il just carry on what im doing lol x

i use comfort milk and im sure i read somewhere that it has to be made with hot water for 1) to make the milk powder sterile 2) there is something that reacts with the hot water to make it 'activate' and work properly and 3) it just doesnt mix properly otherwise and gets little 'crystals'

teh crystals are the thickening agent, they wont disolved unless the water is very warm or hot. i always found that if they werent disolved the teat would get blocked

Ditto, I only bothered trying to make with cooled boiled water twice as each time the thickening crystals did not dissolve and the teat got blocked. I use Aptimal comfort, I don't know if other comfort formula's behave differently?

Now I just make up three feeds at a time, cool them in iced water and store them in the fridge until needed. I could make up more but if I stick to three at a time I know I will always use them up within 24hours. I know this is against current advice for the preparation of formula, however, I am comfortable doing this and have never had any problems.

If I have to make up feeds out and about I either take a made up bottle in a coolbag or take a flask of hot water to make a bottle up fresh.

same here... except max only has 3 a day now. we use c & g comfort
