how do you thank someone?

I see a little thing under my username saying how many times I've thanked or been thanked (0!). A good reminder to express gratitude, and I'm guessing since it's a thing on your profile, might affect standing on the site in some way? Anyhoo, how do you do it? I wrote thanks in a reply but that didn't show up.

Underneath a post it will say report, quote and thank. Just click on the the thank button x
