How far do you have to travel to give birth?

I live between two hospitals and am 10 minutes away from each - both are midwife led birthing units but only one has the full back up of the hospital in case of issues. I prefer the other unit and have had all my scans etc there and they are happy for me to give birth there as so far everything looks straightforward but I don't want to take the risk of not having everything that I need and baby needs so am going to the other hospital with full back up.

There is a third unit which is part of the same PCT but that is 30 minutes away on a good day and more likely 60 minutes plus in rush hour!

I've just AA route planned it as I had no idea :haha: Seems like ages in the car when we've been but is only 12 miles/22 minutes.

We are 1 hour and 30 min away from the hospital,Hopefully we will have enough time to get there.

Thanks very much for all the responses, and sorry to hear about all those experiencing traffic problems / road closures. As if we don't have enough to worry about!

My hospital is about 24 miles away but the road is a bit of a nightmare so on a typical day it can take about 45 minutes. In rush hour you are looking at 1hr 15.

I have been told (by a friend that went into labour in the early hours) that you can get there in 15 minutes at 3am

We're about 20mins on a good run, 35mins during peak hour..... It's all freeways and highways except for a couple of streets after the last freeway which is where peak hour would affect us.

Love

About 17 miles away. But traffic in town is horrendous and there is NO parking at the hospital. So it can take upwards of 30-45 minutes to get there. Should be interesting IF I need to go there. Hoping for a Home Birth!

40 minutes on a good run, but its on a very busy road in the city centre with NO parking either (they do a shuttle bus from the local mall... don't think so, LOL!!!). REALLY hope she comes in the middle of the night or its going to be extremely stressful.

If I wasn't consultant led then the midwife hospital is a 3 minute walk. sighhhhh.

just under 10 miles. takes about 20-30 minutes (traffic dependent) - it's right near the town centre so that's why it is unpredictable how long it takes

good job i'm having a c-section and know when to get there for otherwise due to the traffic i dont think i'd make it lol x

20 minutes on a good run, can take anything upto 2 hours on abd one when traffic is bad xx

About 20-25 mins away and its a pretty straight run.
