Hey ladies,

I've just started charting my BBT it says to take temp first thing in morning but due to my job I can only do it early evening.
Does it make that much of a difference considering o do it at the same time each day?

Xxx Baby dust to all xxx

Hiya...don't think it matters what time u do it but I think it should be the same time every day after at least 3 hours sleep xx

Thanks for the quick response :) but does it definately have to be after a nap? xxxxx

It doesn't have to be at a certain time, just try and do it at the same time after at least 3 hours or sleep. If you wake up earlier or oversleep on accident you can always use https://www.whenmybaby.com/basalbodytemperature.php For example If you have a night job or something and you go to sleep around 9pm and wake up at midnight it's fine if you take it at midnight.

It's very important to take it within 30min and after 3 hours of sleep or else it can vary greatly.. Especially the 3 hours or sleep, it will change it dramatically if you don't. It would make it hard to determine ovulation. GL xx

As I understand it, your BASAL body temperature is the lowest temperature attained by your body at rest.
Once you're up, out of bed, and going about your daily routine, your body temperature can fluctuate throughout the day, due to various factors. So if you're not taking it first thing when you wake up, then technically you're not checking your basal body temp, and as such any chart using non-BBT temps is a little bit pointless.

If early evening is when you get out of bed (perhaps you work nights and sleep during the day?) then that is the best time for you to take your temp. But otherwise, I don't see that taking it in the early evening is of any use at all for charting purposes. YMMV

I'm new to using BBT specifically for ovulation charting, but I've been checking my BBT on and off for many years, ever since I was first diagnosed with thyroid disease. Its a great way to judge when the meds kick in or need adjusting...BBT isn't just for baby-makin' you know :haha:

I just started to temp as well and what I have read and been told by some of the awesome ladies here is that you have to take the reading almost right after you wake up...whenever that is. So if your schedule means you wake up at 4pm then take it then. It doesn't have to be morning hours, but just right after you wake. I've read that you need to take it before even sitting up in bed or getting up. What I do is set my alarm to 6am since there is no reason I am awake before then and do my temp then. That way I am guaranteed to always get it at the same time. The crucial point here is to take it right after you wake up. Hope I could help out and good luck!
