As title says... How long is it before you are allowed to drive? Is it really 6 weeks?

It's when ever u feel able to do an emergency stop (comfortably) :) I phoned my insurance company to check and drove after 4 weeks :D

Hope that helps xxx

Don't know what it is in the UK, but where I live (western Canada) you can drive right away. I was just warned by my nurse that I MUST be able to shoulder check. I had my C-section 12 days ago and I drove for the first time 6 days after my surgery. ( I have been able to move very well though. I just rest a lot before I want to drive anywhere) I do only drive once every couple of days right now though.

I don't think there is a set time but you probably should check with your insurance company what their policy is. Mine said they were ok with me driving as long as I got the ok from my doctor. I did this at 4 weeks with ds2. With ds1 I had wound breakdown so didn't really want to drive til after 6 weeks.

If you have a GA it's 6 weeks, hospital told me to allow 2 weeks for physical recovery and after that drive when I felt fit.. I checked with insurance company who said to go with advice from hospital xx

I used to work within car insurance. The company I worked for, it was 6 weeks, unless you had a signed letter of consent from your dr saying you were fit to drive.

I had a general anaesthetic for ds1 and was not told it was any different to any other c section.

The issue is insurance, so always check with them first - you don't want to go driving, thinking you are ok, and end up not covered by your insurance should something happen. I had a pretty rough recovery with my first, so really didn't feel up to driving for a long time anyway.

wss

I also didn't recover great from mine and it must of been 10 or 12 weeks before i drove afterwards.

I contacted my insurance ompanh and they stated go by what your midwife / doc says. I asked them and they said consult your insurance lol. I eventually was told as long as you feel well enough and can comfortably drive then there are no set limits.

Sae here Debzie, when I asked my GP she said ask your insurers, when I asked my insurers they said ask your GP! I drove at 4 weeks, had an uncomplicated recovery, the biggest problem was the baby car seat!

Yeah I here you about th car seat. I'm just 3 weeks post and luckily have a four doi o have been leaving the car seat in and lifting my baby in and out. I cannot carry it at the mo.

I waited the full 6 weeks. Although you may feel you're ready before that, and you may even drive and it's OK before that, the reason they say to wait until 6 weeks is for evasive manoeuvres or emergency stops.
